School Board Elections

You are getting ripped off if they are making 42K a year and producing trash like you.

You realize the "upset" parents are upset about masks, covid, CRT etc. Which are all republican/MAGATs(as you typed)/Q-tard talking points. None of it is the actual education of the kids. Before you scream CRT!!!! is, please explain to me what you think teaching CRT looks like. The fact that you are oblivious to this shouldn't be surprising given who you are.

I’m also going to be voting for the first time in a school election. My daughter is a senior this year, besides her freshman year I would say her entire high school career has been pretty erratic with the online learning, then part time in class schedule, masks, athletic seasons cancelled.

I feel bad for her and all the kids.
And in spite of all of that, she turned out great. She's bright, knows how to work hard, works well with others, is kind, and gives me a high-five everyday when she walks by between 7th and 8th periods. You should be a proud parent.

Trash like me? Oh, okay. I've been extremely civil to you and have made every effort just to have a discussion.
Your triggered response that quickly resorts to some sort of name calling indicates you're not interested. I have no idea why you would choose to try to go that route, but I have my suspicions and I'll leave it at that.

Go call someone else names. Maybe you can begin by looking in a mirror.
Yeah I have zero patience for idiots such as yourself and swag. People have tried being nice and polite and you still refuse to stop being a hack. So you get to deal with being called stupid and people not wanting to explain to you for the 109th time why you are wrong. Improve yourself, or just go die I don't really care.

I was kinda rooting for you “offing” yourself personally….

Edit: lol, that totally wasn’t meant for you!!

I’m seeing as many signs for school board elections here in Waukee as I have for presidential elections. Can honestly say that this is the first time I will be voting in a school board election.

The 4 challengers basically running as a collective are what you expect with the parent-choice (read: teachers and masks = bad) type.

One thing I’ve learned is that if you lead your description of yourself with “I’m a patriot”, I just assume you’re a bad candidate.

Are these things getting as heated in other places as they are over here?
The "I'm a patriot" statement is a dead giveaway telling me not to vote for that person. The "I'm endorsed by the police association/union" another reason to not vote for that candidate.

Have any of you attended a school board meeting or been attentive to what your children are being taught? Have you gone to any candidate forums and listened or asked any candidate what they think about curriculum content?
Or what their overall philosophy is with regard to education?
Seems like we’re tilting towards politics rather than reading - writing - arithmetic. Just keep the politics out and the actual education in.

I have attended over 275 school board meetings across the state of Indiana since 2003. I have been in all types of districts from small (under 500 kids) to large (over 20k kids) and urban to rural.

I can think of less than 10 instances of a board member being political and they are typically hard core no taxes Reupublicans.

I don’t necessarily disagree. But I also know that these people running are generally not who I want setting school curriculum either. That’s how you get to a stage where teaching that the Holocaust is bad is controversial.
Or they start weeding out and firing admin who they simply don’t like.

You’re right, I shouldn’t have said that. God forbid you actually would’ve done it. I’m ok with your racial epithets and derogatory use of mentally disabled people. Some of us evolve slower than others.
Yeah I don't care that you told me to off myself. Just understand once you show you are ok with speech like that, you don't get to get mad at others for speaking mean to you. Or you can and just be a massive hypocrite, which wouldn't shock me.

Was never mad, but carry on.

I need @Tfxchawk to give me the rundown on all the candidates for the Cedar Rapids School Board.
Not sure I am in the business of breaking down the positives and negatives of each candidate for you on a local school board election. There are a couple candidates that definitely are a reflex to what I said in a previous thread. Accomplished people that have as a part of their platform that parents are not being listened to in the district. A few other candidates that are running for reelection or are of the same cloth as those that have run the districts buildings into the ground.

The new superintendent seems to be a good one

Sorry that probably isn't as partisan as you were hoping but you will find few people in cedar rapids that have been happy with the schools district board and their decisions. Look no further than the administration building on Edgewood while that actual school buildings were left to rot....

Politics has trickled down to the school boards.

That is fvcking sad.
It is literally an election. Of course it's political. The problem with your statement and the underlying belief is this idea that school board members should run unopposed or should only come from a certain part of the community. That has been going on so long in most communities and it's a good thing it is apparently changing.

No worries. I was honestly asking your impressions as you seem to have your finger on the pulse of the school board better than I obviously do.

Patriotism is good, but I have trouble connecting why that should matter when it comes to who we put on the school board.

I noticed that on one of our local signs too.

Why would school board elections be political, as in being funded by PACs?

I simply have no understanding why that should happen. None.
