Wait....What???

Oh that's right......you're in a different time zone, a day ahead of us.

OK...got it now. How did Cooper do???
BTW- this made me smile to read. That was a good night. I think Ironside took questions on the air that night.

Yea...they didn't look good as a whole. Cory is going to have to get better on his feet if he wants to win a title. These guys using the Russian tie are going to have to use it more for than just pushing a guy...just not explosive enough. Not often one sees a pin off a tilt...think Sammy did it last year too.

Man of the match:Vallholl

I listened to Ironside broadcast, didn't see it. From the sound of it, we were slow, flat-footed, and sloppy. Gilman and Brooks get an A+, Stoll and Sorensen B, Clark C. What do you give Cooper, a B or a D? Not since Kelly have I seen a guy who manages to find a way to lose no matter the opportunity. 41 and 65: F--they just...oh, whatever, sigh.

Thanks for play-by-play. Soundsnlike it wasn't our best showing. Time to have a short memory and move on.

Three of our studs wrestled well, three weren't that sharp, one didn't wrestle. Looked worse than it was. I'm starting to worry about 74.

Gilman and Brooks are at a different level.

IAWRESTLE...

"I'm not going to tell you (about Burak), but he's a good student and doing things the right way," Coach Brands

SDSU guy has a lot of starch.
If i was at CHA, hawkcrazy would be yelling something like, "put this spaz on his back, Sammy!"
Sammy backs out
SW on Sammy.
Restart, sammy agressive
0-0
or "Break his arm, Sammy". Vall Jr. and I love going to the matches to hear him cheer for the Hawks (and yes, I am taking to quoting myself).

So which is it?

flu

or carpal tunnel
Kwood, so nice to see you. How's the cut to 157 going? Nice emojis, BTW. I see the aliens have returned you to us, once again. Did you win a battle?

My excuse? I'm going with "training through the meet".

Thanks for the PBP, Vall. A few thoughts:

1. Sounds like the guys might have been given Propofol IV's before the meet.
2. Curious as to why/how Clark's opponent hung with him the way he did. Cory usually makes quick work of these kinds of guys. Might have been the Propofol.
3. Happy for Gross that he got a W in front of the Iowa crowd. How was his reception? Hopefully positive. Of course, would have preferred a Ryan win.
4. Sounds like Coop hung tough with a quality opponent. Still got faith that he'll have a more productive season than many of us think he will.
5. Paddock sounded entertaining to watch. Baby steps.
6. I'm betting Brooks' performance will enable him to hold his spot as the #11 184-pounder in the nation. I highly doubt he drops.
7. Curious about 197. Burak? Burak? Bueller? Hope he's doing OK.

Cooper was a strange one. I thought he looked good. And had it won when he had the TD to backs. How that happened, I'll never know.

Cc guy looked the aggressor. Corey looked to reshoot and then tried to used his length to score, ie MM. Also curious #7. Oh well, go Hawks tomorrow!

And for Paddock to wrestle a #20 guy as a RS Frosh, he did all right. He's got a lot more defense than offense. Hopping around on one leg reminded me of Chad Beatty one night in CHA...

You are doing a great job and really saved me last meet when my daughter read it to me as we were driving. You are better off without the announcers. During the cooper match the girl announcer actually said how Cooper has had a great career in Carver, then during intermission was talking to someone else and said, there were no notes on cooper so she just made ish up. Nice. "Prior to wrestling for Iowa Cooper was actually with the travel production of annie." Little known and totally fictional fact.
I think Edwin was in touring company of Wicked and not Annie. There aren't a lot of 57 lbs in Annie.

I'll respectfully say it was some of the worst Iowa wrestling I've seen in a long time. 25 and 84 were the only true positives. I just hope we had practice before the dual.

To me Clark was having trouble w his opponents strength. The kid didn't let Cory set and shoot. Also, in 2&3 periods Cory had a hand in his face constantly.

A very lack luster match all in all from him. Limited set ups and inside offense was non existent.

Me thinks you might have a short memory or are being hyper critical.

Gilman, Brooks and Stoll (not his fault the guy ran away) took care of business.

Clark needs to commit to his outside shots. Simms is an Iowa kid and was doing all he could to keep it close.

Ryan reminds me of Kelly. Crap loads of hand fighting and no shots. Reminds me of much of last years group and not something I want back. Poor on bottom too.

Sorensen needs to get off the tracks and cut loose more. Kemdog TF that kid.

I actually thought Cooper looked the best he has all year. Gave me some hope.

Paddock seems lethargic in general out there, slow feet. Not sure if it is the cut or what. He is not real bulky looking. Maybe needs to get used to the cut, maybe needs to hit the weights and dedicate to 174.

Meyer looks flat flat flat.

Think it was actually a 17-4 major, Sorensen just had a heck of a time getting through the hands. Ironside said he needs to be less one dimensional, and string stuff together.

Agreed, CC's opponent looked strong and Corey looked content to hold on for the win in the third. Cory seems to have less variety in his offense this year. Cory is working almost exclusively from the 2 on 1 on the opp's L arm. I don't remember him being this one-dimensional last year. But my memory could be suspect as well.

Looked to me like we might have trained through this team. Almost like some guys had specific things they were going to do to work on. (I.E. One dementional).

Could be wrong but not really a threat to us. Maybe a little underestimated?

I find it funny how some of you don't realize who Clarks opponent was tonight. Do I believe that Clark should have won tonight? Yes. But Simms was a 2 timer? from TRV/Humboldt and got staph infection his senior year and missed most of his senior year battling it out. I'm sure he was wrestling with some extra umph tonight in his home state and at CHA. I do believe Clark can build on this matchup in the future, but props to Simms for being resilient.

Clark was definitely focusing on neutral...didn't feel like riding the guy. Just slow on his feet, almost like he hasn't adjusted to the cut yet this season.

Meanwhile, Brewer is out there murdering people.

Agree re: Paddock. Looks like he's at the wrong weight.

3.You wouldn't be if you knew any details. 5. Please tell me you are being sarcastic? On an entertainment scale of 1-10 Paddock would fall in the 1-3 range at this point in time.

Simms should go into boxing. All he really did was slap Cory for 6 minutes mixed in with some shots when Cory would try blocking his head slaps. They guy was strong and athletic, I am glad Cory got to face a different type of strategy and defense. It will pay off later.

What happened to Klapprodt? Is he on some top-secret overseas assignment with St. John?
Great question. Klapprodt is also a South Dakota kid, would have seemed like a great time to get him in there. I have to assume he his injured (he is listed on the roster).

As for St. John, he's apparently either dinged or isn't better than Cooper, which really shouldn't be that surprising. If it's the latter, unless St. John comes on like gang-busters soon, he's not likely to ever see significant time in the Iowa lineup, IMO, with the guys we have coming in or already here in his weight range. I think we'd all love to see another St. John in our lineup, but my view from afar tells me that is unlikely, but I've been wrong before.............

Sammy has pinned a lot of kids with that tilt.

I think Simms actually wrestled whole season his senior year and was ranked #1 and got the staph infection right before sectionals. Heard they had his leg laid open for a while. Good wrestler, glad he got a shot in college

Simms wrestled really well. (I went back and watched on BT2Go.) He had some funk, including about 4 circle-spin counters, none of which Cory fell for, but a couple of which got Simms out of trouble. Like Sorensen, though, it's incumbent on Clark to get to his offense and open up those matches. See Brooks.
