Sean Foster

It appears he is a fall back option at best.....not sure how he got rated so high. He doesn't look physical or quick on film and he has been to several camps (Iowa's several times) and no offer. Say what you want about the staff, but questioning their ability to identify OL talent should never be the case.

Commits to ISU - how long until we hear them bragging about getting a "4*" recruit?

My guess is Rivals absolutely whiffed on him. They have him a 4* and the #3 rated player in Illinois yet no upper level offers for him. He basically was offered by power 5 bottom feeders.

6'8 295lber Probably looked like a mauler at a small school. Could be weak and slow in camps.. If ferentz and co. Passed I can live with it..

This x100. When it comes to O-line recruits I will back Ferentz till the end. The guy knows the type of player he wants and what he can turn them into.

While he reports a lot of quality offers, very few are from "power" teams, (Iowa, michigan state, nebraska, wisconsin)
All those evaluations must reveal something that just doesn't fit the system.

Part of me thinks he wants to go to
ISU in hopes to shove it to Iowa

Very few schools develop O-lineman as well as Iowa has under Ferentz. So to not even offer Foster after having him at several camps and seeing hours of game film on him speaks volumes.

OP, you can re-title your thread, "This is how the classy fanbase treats legacy recruits".

I think it's more an issue that with his current rating, Hawk fans might think KF should have offered. The staff obviously felt different.

There is optimism in Ames, again. Every time they hire a new coach, fans hope for improvement. Most new staffs fail in Ames. Don't see anything to indicate this will change with the Toledo guy. But for now... fans there are upbeat.

The cycle goes like this...

Coach (fill in name) hired: OMG!! This guy is the greatest coach ever! He has so much energy and passion! He works so hard at recruiting! We are on the rise! Pollard is a genius!

After year 1 and an upset or two,..maybe a bowl appearance: OMG!! We are SO on the rise! Hawks are trending down. I love coach (fill in name)! He has so much passion and energy! Pollard is a genius!

After year 2 and a .500 record: Love coach's passion. He just needs to get his guys through the program. (Insert last coach's name) left the cupboard empty. The refs cost us 2-3 wins. Hawks suck.

After year 3 and another ,500 or worse season: Is it basketball season yet? Hawks suck. (Fill in name) needs to go. Let's go after Saban.

After year 4 and yet another ,500 or worse season; (fill in name) fired. We need someone who wants to be here. We need someone who has energy and passion.

Coach (fill in name) hired: OMG!! This guy is the greatest coach ever! He has so much energy and passion! He works so hard at recruiting! We are on the rise! Pollard is a genius! Hawks suck!

Wash. Rinse. Repeat.

If I were a betting man I would put money that KF is still at Iowa when ISU is looking for yet another coach. Whether this coach is does good or bad he is going to be gone. ISU is not a destination job for 99.9% of coaches. If he does well he will bolt for a better opportunity, if he does not do well he will be gone by 2020. Getting rid of Dan Mac was the worst thing ISU could have done (lucky Iowa did not follow suite and held on to KF)

Define legacy recruit....His dad was at Iowa for 1 year(redshirted) and left school. wasn't a starter, wasn't a letterman, wasn't even in school for five years. Do give me that crap about legacy. This staff evaluates talent, regardless of the name.Troy is a great person, but as a football player no so much. give it a rest

Well done. This is spot on.

He's probably going to be as good as Jake Campos isn't!

Sad thing is Campos is all ISU has coming back next year on OL. That could be a huge factor for their offense especially Warren and the running game. On top of losing some seniors I had no clue until I was reading espn big 12 blog other day and linked an article from DSM Register where their best OL Daniel Burton will not be returning for senior year but had no specifics why.

Since a recruits star rating is all that a lot of people on forums seem to look at, I guess we should have been recruiting him, even though he has ZERO offers from any teams that are known for having decent offensive lines. Of course, after we signed him, then all these same people would be bitching that we got another player whom only MAC schools wanted. LOL

Losing Burton was a tough blow for sure. He was an all-league guy when healthy. Unfortunately his knee is shot.

ISU has 4 OL guys that have played snaps in the Big 12. This new coaching staff has its work cut out for them for sure. Of course they also have a bunch of PT to sell these guys on.

There's more good players than we have scholly's for. We cannot sign every lineman in the nation so other good OLine prospects are going to land all over the place including Ames.

Their second string center also decided to leave the team. Basically all they have back are campos and another OT. Lanning is going to be running for his life. Also, going to be hard to get a run game going with such a bad oline.

We will see if ISU's OC/OL coach can produce similar results as he did at Toledo last year..They replaced 5 graduating senior starters..he earned a OL coach of the year award for their performance with 5 new starters..They brought in a couple JUCOS the new staff was familiar with when they were at Toledo. It will be a tough task, but Manning has a little cred when it comes to coaching the O-line.

Toledo also has the most talent in the MAC year after year so it is a little different than having to try and have a good offensive line when you have the least talent in the league except of course KU.

He has a huge task ahead of him, no doubt. They will prolly be their typical turd self in the first year or two, but I don't expect their O-line to remain as crappy as it has been.

What makes you think this is true?

Because it is. This is not just something I am making up. Dave Bartoo from college football matrix said Toledo routinely has best recruits year in and year out in the MAC, western michigan is now changing that but typically they are at the top. He said Campbell coached at or below the talent level of the team. So you move that over to ISU who typically has the 9th or 10th class in the Big 12 and I expect to see more of the same. Finishing next to last in the Big 12. Until Snyder retires then they move up to 8th.

That may be true and time will tell. I am optimistic as I can be for a lifetime fan. Ferentz had a couple tough years starting before things started to pick up. You had a great season coming off of a couple not so good finishes. I see a lot of positives with this staff so far but the proof will be what the product is on the field. Good luck this year.

That award should have gone to the Clemson oline coach. He had to replace five starters that played at a far higher level than Toledo. Correct me if I'm wrong. Not meant to diminish the new ISU guy but come on.

Wow how do you know what Dave Bartoo says about the MAC and who's recruiting the best? That's pretty weird man. I'll have to take your word on it I guess. Campbell and his staff probably deserve some credit for the recruiting success as well I suppose. These guys have a lot of energy and they are hitting the trail really hard. I've been pretty impressed with what they've done and the things recruits have said about them.

One other thing. It's relatively rare for MAC times to spend much time in the top 25. Toledo was there for most of the last season. How does a coach who is underperforming relative to his talent accomplish that in a "minor" conference? Doesn't make much sense.

He is not coming back due to injuries.

Iowa and Wisconsin both schools known for great lineman decides to pass on him while he chose Iowa stAte over Purdue after he decommissioned from Minnesota. I trust the Iowa and wisconsins staff evaluating lineman compared to iowa states and purdues
