Sean Foster

Iowa and Wisconsin both schools known for great lineman decides to pass on him while he chose Iowa stAte over Purdue after he decommissioned from Minnesota. I trust the Iowa and wisconsins staff evaluating lineman compared to iowa states and purdues

Minny changed coaches. The new people in charge told Foster to look elsewhere.

Iowa State should have gone with someone who has a proven record of building programs the way Minnesota did with Kill. But Campbell seems like a good guy and who knows? Most coaching hires are really crapshoots anyway. I think Rhoads brought upon his own downfall.

One thing working in his favor next year is that they return a ton of players on defense. They return a lot on offense as well except for their oline. Their oline right now looks bad for next year. I don't really buy Lanning as a successful Big 12 QB either.

That may be true and time will tell. I am optimistic as I can be for a lifetime fan. Ferentz had a couple tough years starting before things started to pick up. You had a great season coming off of a couple not so good finishes. I see a lot of positives with this staff so far but the proof will be what the product is on the field. Good luck this year.
That is true, however; comparing ISU to Iowa is apples to oranges. I do not mean to come off as sounding pretentious or anything but there are so many built in advantages in Iowa as opposed to ISU when it comes to football. Iowa had history of being successful, facilities were/are much better, much better fan base (as in #'s), Iowa City > Ames, etc. Furthermore, if a coach had the success that KF had at Iowa(especially 2001-2005) at ISU do you really think they are going to stay? I mean if he does well he is gone, if he does poorly he is gone....it kind of sucks for ISU but that is the truth

I agree with you about the built in advantages. They are primarily the result of a better conference affiliation (with schools in more densely populated areas) and being the biggest school in the state for most of modern history. Those 2 factors have meant more money for Iowa and that has given it a definite edge. Beyond that, though, the 2 situations are probably a lot more similar than you'd be comfortable to admit.

As for Ferentz you should be thankful that he has never been compelled enough to test his mettle in the NFL to actually pull the trigger (like our boy Fred did). He realized that overall the situation in Iowa City was too good to give up for a pro gig. He has much better job security, better quality of life, and has been able to coach his sons and now potentially hand the job off to one of them.

Lastly I agree that Iowa State isn't generally considered a destination job. Much stranger things have happened though. Look no further than Bill Snyder.

Does anyone else notice that Fosters stock keeps dropping on the boards?? Than again, this is the first time experts have really re-evaluated the prospects since October/November
