Senior leadership is the most overrated term in college sports, particularly basketball. 30 games in, everyone is a veteran at this point. And if your experience has always been negative, chances are being a senior with all of those demons makes it more difficult. Either you have balls or you don't. There is a lineup on this roster that can win, but it's not the one where 4 seniors are starting and getting big minutes. And with this team, you can pretty much tell when someone doesn't have "it" on a particular night and get him out. With the exception of Utoff and Jok, there is not a player on the floor that has shown any ability to work his way out of a funk real time during a game. I guess Baer has actually shown the ability to make plays down the stretch despite maybe not playing well earlier in the game. Everyone else is expendable. If they aren't playing well, get them out. That's Fran's downfall. Some belief that ignores evidence that because a guy has been around a while that in and of itself means he will be more clutch down the stretch.
I hope for Fran's sake the senior fairy leaves some money under his pillow tonight. Believing that senior leadership trumps actual performance is just like believing in fairies that leave money under your pillow. It's not real. Doesn't exist.
