Hat tip to the kid for taking his life lumps and turning it around. I don't know if he'll win a title but he's got himself on track to do good things. I don't wish we had him because I'm a big believer in Satchel Paige's "Don't look back, something may be gaining." It all worked out for a reason and I wish him the best except against the Hawks.

In his interview he more or less said he can't wait to get back at Iowa. He got arrested and could have been a man and owned up to mistake. Instead he blamed the cops and the school for his trouble. I suggest talking to some of those in the know before being so generous with the internet wishes.

Where? What interview?

Can't blame the kid for wanting to get a fresh start.

A guy wrestling with a chip on his shoulder...what's new? Does it really matter at this point? My generosity stems from the fact that he has wrestled his way back to being almost elite. Whatever it took to do so after what happened worked for him. If what you say is true, then I'm glad he's not a Hawk. It still doesn't change what he has accomplished...something like this can take a young guy out for good and it didn't happen.

To each their own. I like praising the kids that keep their noses clean and overcome adversity that wasn't self inflicted. He wasted a year of Iowa money and was nothing but a black eye for the program. He's a good wrestler though. Maybe he can give some pep talks to the area youth like a smaller and paler Ray Lewis.

Gotcha sport....All I can say is that nobody is perfect and that I have self-inflicted some adversity on myself a time or two, especially when I was young. It ended up changing the course of my life for the better IMO. BTW, we have had a lot of guys at Iowa in the same situation...were they black eyes on the team? Shit happens and he went in another direction unlike Logan Ryan who stayed. BTW, here is an interview I found from Flo...he pretty much owns up to screwing up.

And what he says in public is a good indication of how it went down, right? Check some sources in the program about how he handled his arrest. It has nothing to do with being perfect or judging him. But I also am going to throw my .2 cents in on the Iowa Hawkeye wrestling board when people are praising somebody who contributed nothing but negatives to the Iowa program. I am sure he appreciates your well wishes. The S Dakota board would probably enjoy it also ;).

And please don't act like I said you must be perfect to deserve praise.

Wayment...you cited an interview where he wants to get back at Iowa but then I cite one where he takes responsibility for his actions. He got booted from the team...he paid for it. He didn't leave school but finished the term out and decided to go elsewhere. Other than that night, what other negatives did he contribute. He had a decent redshirt year...what other trouble did he get into?

I was hard on the guys when it happened and said they should get booted. It happened and Iowa and Seth moved on. At least for me, doesn't mean Gross should be damned to wrestling hell. He just made the Jr World Team...just saying its a nice bounce back. BTW, here was my post to the board about Logan getting back on the team. I may not be Mr. Insider like yourself but I was aware of some of the stuff that happened.

Hearing that he's enrolled in school and trying to get back on the team. Had offers from other schools, but bleeds Black and Gold.

exactly logan bleeds black and gold seth does not, seth went else where because his parents thought it best(wonder what he told his parents about that night) I see no reason to make a hero out of him.

Your strawmans are getting old. I never said he should be damned to hell. Lets keep to the facts and agree to disagree. I don't think he deserves praise from Iowa fans. No more no less. I don't wish him ill will or to burn him at the stake. I spent less time thinking about him over the last year than it took to read your post. I could not care less about him but will state my opinion when I see people pimping him on the Iowa site. I will continue to think about our past and current Iowa wrestlers that deserve the attention and praise. You can continue to love everyone. We can both continue to be Iowa fans. Win win for all of us.

I really don't understand the animosity towards the kid. He seems like a good kid and a good wrestler who made a mistake and is now making the most of his second chance. Give the kid credit. It's not easy switching programs / schools... He's at a good place working out with Bono and Schopp on a daily basis and it's paying off. Congrats to Seth!

You've been around long enough to know that this isn't JUST a Hawkeye board.
Slap me if I am mistaken but isn't this Hawkeye Report? I don't have a problem with non hawkeye related news. I do think it is strange to heap praise on some man that essentially screwed over the Hawks. You have been around long enough to know that I can post my opinion. How about we start some Baldorosa, Skon, Berge, Byers, the secret German, and Andrew Long appreciation threads while we are in such a loving mood?

Wow, don't hold back, how do you really feel?

Seems silly to try and put the kid down in my opinion or even state that it's wrong to congratulate him on achieving something pretty remarkable, especially since he is now representing our country. He committed a crime when he was drinking and he paid the price, he was kicked off the team that he dreamed of wrestling for, his first college choice over many that I am sure offered him. He made a mistake in his teens and unlike some of us who never had the spot light on them, he not only got punished, but had to deal with a lot of negative attention as well.

I don't know him, but will give him the benefit of the doubt that he is a good kid that made a drunken mistake until he proves otherwise. Since he is a former hawk and now a representative of the US, I think it's perfectly appropriate to have this thread. I also think it's understandable that people will have different opinions.

Multiple Andrew Long threads were started because he was news...a lot of it was appreciation until he screwed up again. Also, this is freestyle season, "He Who Shall Not Be Named" made the the junior world team and is a former Hawk for good or bad. I did not "heap" praise, just essentially said good job coming back and doing good things. Even wrote that I don't wish he was a Hawk (despite the success).

Your strawmans are getting old. I never said he should be damned to hell.

Get it right...I wrote "wrestling hell" (which is tongue in cheek, not a strawman). Different than real hell. Isn't part of "wrestling hell" wanting him never mentioned in a positive light as you are arguing?

I don't think he deserves praise from Iowa fans. No more no less. I don't wish him ill will or to burn him at the stake.

In this thread, you have stated "he contributed nothing but negatives" to Iowa and was a "black eye" on the program. Despite vague references to those in the know, you provided no support for the above. I don't know the real story of "He Who Shall Not Be Named." I am guessing 99% of the posters on here don't either to include you.

So read no further cause this is really going to piss you off:

I hope he wins a medal for Team USA. I know...just throwing the love around.

You can be thankful that he made the US Junior Team and will be representing the USA at Junior Worlds, you can also be thankful that we have a better 133 than he will be next year :)
And I am thankful he is going 133 because if he went 141 next year and killed it, placing higher than whomever we put out there, we might get some people, including myself, that wished he would have been able to make amends and stay on the team. Which then may have a poster or two that might bring down the wrath of god on me or damn me to wrestling hell, which I imagine is much like the off season sans freestyle.

Having him would have at least saved HR from having 50 pages on Brody Grothus' death defying weight cut. Look at the positives.

He was 26-14 while wrestling a lesser schedule and he had a loss to Turk. Wouldn't have changed the Brody thing one bit.

I also get the feeling that any minute chance of us landing Mark Hall left when Gross left for the JackRabbits.
Wish the kid the best with his second chance, and hope he learns to walk the walk of his faith rather than just talk the talk. Have enough of those people as it is already.

I don't think we want to underestimate Gross too much at 133 next year. He has obviously made some great improvements. Round of 12 up a weight and now a Junior World Team member.

He won't beat Clark, but I expect him to be competitive and is a likely AA.

Who said Gross was going 133 next year? I'm not saying you guys are wrong I just had not heard anything about it. I just figured right now he's making the cut because it's day before weigh ins.

I think I heard it on Flo Wrestling Radio Live. But I consume too much wrestling media so I could be wrong. A couple other posters also said 133 next year on this thread. Maybe they could help confirm.

This was stated by CP and Willie on yesterdays FRL broadcast. 133 next year.

Thanks guys. 133 is going to be a bear next year especially if NATO decides to move up. Since TOSU is all about the team I just don't see it happening though. Dance on the other hand is 33 for sure.

Gross was charged with two counts felony burglary, 7 counts misdemeanor burglary, 2 counts conspiracy felony burglary, 1 count conspiracy misdemeanor burglary, open container, under-age possession, and interference with a police officer. Luckily, the Christian loophole came into play during sentencing and he only had to confess, say 10 Hail Mary's, and probation.

If only he would have stayed in Minny, taken a few Xanax, supplied cheaply by a team mate, Netflix and super Chill, everything would have been fine. But since the good Minny HS wrestlers can't imagine being a goopher, there was little chance he was going to stick around. I guess he'd even rather be in a Dakota than U of Minnesota. Can't blame him i guess.

Sorry Minny fans, that was only a jab at jammy. I love the Mall of America, Ice fishing and Bob and Doug McKenzie eeh ;)

Seems like a decent cut for him. Would like to see how he handles it first before putting him on the stand.

So I have two questions about "wrestling hell." First, where is it located? And second, what are the ROE's (rules of engagement) to ensure I stay out of it? TIA.

So because I don't think Iowa fans should be slobbering over the kid that means I hate him? How many times do I need to say I couldn't care less about him. He isn't significant to me. I merely attempted to educate some of you on how he handled the situation and his contributions to the Iowa program. It isn't any sweat off my sack. You guys seem pretty hell bent on loving the hell out of him which is your right. Since some of you are so dense I will repeat I wish no ill will towards him. I don't hate him. I literally don't give a crap one about him. He was brought up by someone on the Iowa site and I put my .2 cents in for how he acted while a Hawkeye. You guys can keep bashing me. I think it's funny because I know where the people close to the program stand. They like the guys in the Iowa room who really deserve our praise. Have a great night kiddos.

Too soon?

Seriously though, hope that J doesn't go out like this. Like Tarp said on the other thread, it was stand up of him to try and keep it in house but the dealing thing is going to leave a mark.

Also, really like Labatts and Moosehead beer. Their football is a little weird up North of the Wall though.
