Sheryl Swoopes (and other Crazy Women) with some incredible takes

I’m not the one making the claim. Looking for context.
Wright Thompson is the Senior Writer for ESPN Sports. Remember that Michael Voepel, who is also with ESPN, is the writer that has followed the W since 1996, and authors the "Rookie Tracker". Thompson has articles that, if you have 6 months to kill, you could read it. It sounds more to me like the National Enquirer, as it gets down and dirty with details. Details, I tell you! Hell. it looks as though he aspires to be CC's Biographer. Sorry, I don't have 6 months for that.

How old was she when this happened? Link to something?
When she was in high school her coach did an excercise with her team, and she had no idea what empathy was. She simply could not relate to how what she did could effect someone else's feelings. This is in Thompson's story. He spend a great deal of time with Clark, her family, and the team last year. Its a facinating read from a guy who did in depth stories with MJ and Tiger. Basically what makes these outlier athletes tick, and CC is every bit the outlier that they were. He talks about never having a "tribe" of her on to belong to until Bluder built that team around her and all the struggles they went through.

Poor Sheryl....

High school was a long time ago…
AND? Your saying that a high school junior would have no understanding of the word empathy? really? I'm just relaying what Wright Thompson said. That CC struggled to understand HOW the things she did, (the side eye looks, the yelling, chewing out other players, etcc..) affected the other players on her team. Again all of this came from conversations with Clark herself, her parents. coaches and the phycologist that Bluder brought in to work with her. Shes struggled to rationalize why others can't see things the way she does, or why not winning doesn't effect them the same way.

Oh **** off.

Tearing down the most polished professional and collegiate athlete maybe all time in how she builds others up and handles negativity is definitely a take. Not once has she snapped despite all the pressure to try and engineer her snapping. She has more character and empathy however the **** you measure that than any other person her age dealing with pressure.

She is a competitor in practice and on the court. Like any high level performer she has ridiculously high expectations from herself and her team. She also respects and builds people around her unlike some of the other athletes your stupid author points to. MJ didn't build anyone up. They performed or they were gone. Kobe didn't build people. Bird didn't do that either. Caitlin stops press conferences and forces the press to pay attention to her team. Assholes like you and this author think that I'd because of some training she received in high school? **** off with that shit.

Anything to tear her down. Stop being an asshole

She is amazing at how she stays above the fray. Doesn’t slop around in the mud even when they continue to goad her.

Opinion piece by ESPN writer. The ones that dismiss her to AR constantly.

journalist Wright Thompson about his in-depth profile of basketball player Caitlin Clark. Thompson spent months getting to know Clark, her family, and her teammates at the University of Iowa, painting a revealing portrait of the phenomenon behind the scenes. Clark is revealed to be highly self-aware and introspective, working hard to understand herself and become a better teammate despite initially struggling with empathy and emotional regulation

You F--k off clown. Not one word did I say tearing Clark down. Not one, so pull your panties back out of your crack. EVERYTHING I said is taken directly from what SHE herself, her parents, and Bluder/Jensen have said in interviews. Not one word I posted was my personal opinion or observation. She (and her coaches) have said how much she has struggled understanding her relationship to those around her as a player, and a person. Given the immense pressure on her constantly, and her being such outlier as a performer its totally understandable that she has faced struggles. Have you actually read or listened to Wright Thompsons story. The quotes from ALL of the people who have coached her, Bringing in phycologists to help her cope and understand her place on a "team" The fact that after one interview talking about her being fine with what Angel Reese did after the championship game, how after it ended she was "shaking uncontrollably" and called her mom and Bluder to see if her comments "were okay"? For the record, I know very well what she said after that incident, but if you really think she was okay with what Reese did given she's such a top level performer, and super type A personality, (Think MJ), then your ignorant. There is NO way she was okay with that. She's just very polished with the media from a great deal of coaching and support from those around her.

He better be careful though, or "hawkedoff" will come after him for revealing behind the scenes truths about CC's struggles because he's just "trying to tear her down". Stupidest thing posted in awhile on here....He spent a good part of a year on this story, getting candid FACTS directly from her and the people closest to her, and what people think she wasn't okay with him talking about what she said? Idiots.....

You are a ****ing clown. Look how easy it was to goad you.

Maybe go watch some of caitlins press conferences and how her teammates interact with her. Take notes. Be better.

Stop weaponizng whatever coaching Caitlin has had to help her deal with assholes like you.

I would say pull your head out of your ass but think it is probably a permanent disability for you. Best if luck with that

At this point the only logical assumption is that your high if you think that I in anyway said a thing to tear her down. EVERYTHING posted came directly from her, her parents or coaches in an interview which they took part in for almost a year knowing full well that Thompson was going to publish all of this. They ALL did this willingly to give people a better understanding of what she's been going through the last several years. And somehow I am attacking her. Okay, I guess the choices are your high, ignorant or simply can't read and comprehend anything you've read. But just for a question, WHY would you need to "goad" someone when you're on here taking somekind of moral high ground that you clearly are totally misinformed about? Time to drop it "jackedoff" you're embarrassing yourself.......

Big difference between understand and fully appreciating her impact. This isn’t a 0 or 100% comment. Maybe some don’t understand nuance.

Sure thing Dad. Like I'm going to let some Asshat come on here and call me every name in the book for something I never did. You never respond to anything either I suppose?
I didn’t even take the time to read any of it. It you feel you were slighted, be the bigger person and move on.

So being an asshat and casting aspersions is your response?
While calling out the other poster for being an asshat and casting aspersions. Solid approach.
You said your peace, used your facts. It felt like you used old facts to support a new premise and on the surface it looked like a shot at CC but you say it wasn’t because in high school she had these issues and talked about it. Those items are all true, it’s in the article. Should be interesting to see how the book that the USA Today writer is working on comes out. CC may even show empathy in it since she has since grown and evolved from the high school standard you feel is important to emphasize.

Maybe you should actually pay attention to whats been posted. The interview was done last year. Her issues with struggling to control these outbursts are ongoing, or do you guys not actually watch the games. She's been very open that she has always struggled with understanding how what she did (outbursts) affected those around her. (Empathy). Take a look at this past NCAA tournament, and her loosing it against Holy Cross, and West Virginia, and a number of times this year in Fever games. Its these outbursts that are the basis for what they're talking about. I find it hilarious that you guys think that because I'm pointing out things that were said BY CC, her parents, and coaches, IN THE LAST year, NOT in high school, and are ongoing as she tries to cope with this stardom, somehow means I'm being disrespectful to her. Thats absolutely crazy, and not true at all. I'm as big a fan of hers as anyone on here, but her stardom and immense popularity have come at a cost to her,(which she has been very candid about),as so often happens. I fail to see how discussing topics that she has so clearly been very candid about is somehow talking bad about her. Thats nonsense.

Super. So you didn't read any of it and yet somehow your qualified to tell someone else how they should respond to the comments made. Makes sense. So you've always been the bigger person on this website??

Sheryl, you’re going to end up digging too large a whole.

I wasn't aware of this interview or discussions. I do know that I have commented on things in the past that I wish she would do that would make her even more likeable to both fans and teammates (and I think she's already pretty damned likeable), and I don't think my comments were well received either. The things I commented on were things like after a game winning shot when her Iowa teammates were jumping around celebrating together, she would sprint off on her own in front of the crowd and her teammates would have to go to her. I also noticed that she did not help teammates up off the floor very often, and too many "I" statements were made in post game press conferences earlier in her Iowa career. I don't think she had awareness of any of these things. She has made some great progress in those areas, particularly in praising teammates instead of talking about herself when interviewed. Not many athletes appreciate their fans as much as CC clearly shows she does, and very few athletes are as polished in interviews as she is. It is hard to imagine that as great as she is, she can and will get even better at some of these intangibles.

Lolol. The fact that you don't see the irony in that your making such a comment while chastising me for "not being the bigger man" pretty much sums it up. That and the fact that you two guys can't get off the nonsense that I ever said ONE thing derogatory about Clark, is mind boggling. You either can't comprehend that NONE of this was me doing anything but repeating things she and her family and coaches have said publicly about her, or your just trying to stir shit up. Either way I'll move on. Its time wasting try to convince people who won't even make an attempt to see they were wrong initially. Bye bye now.....

To me - the only real area I see for her to improve upon is to stop the bitching and moaning to officials. Some is expected and certainly fine, but she goes way past that quite often. Otherwise, she is a fierce competitor and I completely enjoy her "red ass" approach to the game.

“In 10th grade she got an assignment about empathy”

Whether she talked about last night or last year that part occurred in high school. Thank you. While it is still a work in progress what was mentioned in Part II of the article was in 10th grade.

Clearly its an ongoing struggle, understanding how the outbursts affect those around her. Your talking about the initial example. Bluder saw the same issues at Iowa. Thats why she had CC watch film of herself during games so that she could see what those actions looked like from outside her skin, and the affects they had. Thats why the last three years in college Bluder brought in a psychologist to work with Caitlin and the team. He spend most of that time helping her to understand her place on a team, and how the things she did affected the group. Again, this all a matter of record. She's had an enormous amount of pressure put on her by her generational talent merging with the social media age. A burden even the greats like MJ and Gretzky never had to deal with...

They even filmed her at practice. It will always be a challenge.
