After seeing Chamberlain in Centennial and The Thornbirds, I was disappointed in Shogun. If it's the Shogun I am thinking of.Two episodes down. I’m in!
FX and HULU by extension.Hulu??
First 2 episodes were great. I love me some 17th century Samurai politics. Two episodes down. I’m in!
The book is so good that I’d recommend waiting to watch. It’s is long, but you’ll fly through it.I've read it's really good but I kinda want to read the book before diving into the show. So I'll probably start watching sometime next year
I loved the original. I'm hoping the release of this remake will encourage some streaming service to carry the Chamberlain version. After seeing Chamberlain in Centennial and The Thornbirds, I was disappointed in Shogun. If it's the Shogun I am thinking of.
My bad. I see there is a new series.
I did too. I was very young when I watched it but remember being mexmorized and have always wanted to get back to it. Same with "House of Dies Drear" movie I stumbled upon one day (that has nothing to do with this).I loved the original. I'm hoping the release of this remake will encourage some streaming service to carry the Chamberlain version.
Me, too. It's excellent, so far.Two episodes down. I’m in!
Sounds like Crowe and really looks like Chamberlain did.Me, too. It's excellent, so far.
One of the things that emerged more clearly in the 2nd episode was the religious conflict of the times between Catholics and Protestants. Ah, the good old days.
I'm not familiar with the Blackthorn actor from previous work, but sometimes I swear he sounds like Russell Crowe.
I'm glad they are focusing on both the internal struggles in Japan and also the geopolitical rivalries of the day. Maybe I've just forgotten but I don't think the original Shogun spent much time on geopolitics.
Of course that might not last, but I hope it does. Both are interesting.
That threw me off at first, but I finally caught on.First 2 episodes were great. I love me some 17th century Samurai politics.
My only complaint is the use of the English language. For some reason I find it very odd that when they say they are going to talk in Portuguese, they continue talking in English. It takes me out of it for a second because it's a bit of a mind f*ck. When they speak in Japanese, we get subtitles. Why not just speak Portuguese with subtitles?
I love how they tie things together so far.Me, too. It's excellent, so far.

Clavell did a masterful job of building tension. You don’t know whose side anyone is really on until the end.
Understand. I just liked Centennial and The Thorn Birds more. I have watched both of those series probably 10x.I loved the original. I'm hoping the release of this remake will encourage some streaming service to carry the Chamberlain version.
Sadly, I can't find any of the 3 showing where I can watch.Understand. I just liked Centennial and The Thorn Birds more. I have watched both of those series probably 10x.
Maybe I need to watch Shogun again.
I was in grad school at the time. Half the students were walking around saying things in broken Japanese for the duration of the show.I did too. I was very young when I watched it but remember being mexmorized and have always wanted to get back to it. Same with "House of Dies Drear" movie I stumbled upon one day (that has nothing to do with this).
Not at all. You’ll fly through it.Is the book a hard read??
The politics are what makes the story.Me, too. It's excellent, so far.

Hmm, maybe I'll wait for them all to come out first. Just added to watchlist and looking forward to it.After episode two I was excited for the next to begin and then remembered they weren't all released at once. So far it looks like it'll be a great show.
I kinda of wish I did that; I'm a big fan of binge-watching. I guess now I have some material to look forward to each week.Hmm, maybe I'll wait for them all to come out first. Just added to watchlist and looking forward to it.
Been waiting for someone to say this; I'll start watching now.Two episodes down. I’m in!
No, it’s just long. I read it as a freshman in high school. Is the book a hard read??
Watched it Friday on your recommendation, thanks. It was very good. I am pretty sure I watched the original miniseries with my brother, but didn't remember. The politics of feudal Japan, intermixed with the Portuguese and Catholic attempted manipulation of the "new world," is really interesting. Two episodes down. I’m in!
I thought it was great. I read the book over 30 years ago, and saw the mini-series about that long ago as well. So, I am familiar with the story, but I don't remember the details very well, and it seemed like a pretty faithful adaptation of the book.Did anyone else not enjoy last nights episode?
Idk, something about it just felt...off.
I'm sure I'm in the minority on this one and maybe I need to rewatch it.
He was the guy who killed himself and the baby in episode 1 for speaking out of turn at the council meeting. That was his wife and mother of the baby. Remember he said he wanted her to be the last one to hold the baby?I’ll be honest- I rewatched episode 2 after starting so 3- felt like I missed something. Specifically, about 10 min to episode 3 a female is shipped off with that group, and said she lost her child and husband- and had NO idea who that was. Upon rewatching still don’t tbh.
Also, the sailing /blockage thing didn’t track for me as it was shown.
That said, immediately looking forward to so 4. I like the “universe” they have going on.
Ty. Should have gone back one more episode I guessHe was the guy who killed himself and the baby in episode 1 for speaking out of turn at the council meeting. That was his wife and mother of the baby. Remember he said he wanted her to be the last one to hold the baby?
