Follow in basketball with late season fades. Add two more losses to this team. Northwestern and Rutgers. We got lucky in both. We would be sitting at 19 and 12. With a losing record in the Big. And a collossal late season collapse.

Holy multiple posts!

But I agree with ya, we are a dumpster fire and should not be in the NCAA.

Of course he shouldn't be involved in the hiring of the next men's b-ball coach. Barta should have been sent packing years ago for his mismanagement.

The recruiting at Iowa must get better to be competitive. Fran's love affair with slow footed, vertically (VJ) challenged Caucasians has to end. Woodbury, Garza, McCabe, Nunge ( I am told), recruits like Nick Rakocevic, Micah Potter, Samir Sehec, or Henry Ellenson (drafted 1st round pros but reassigned to d-league and released - career sub). Too bad Iowa could not have landed Joey Hauser (Weiskamp's buddy in AAU ball- @ Marquette). Lord helps us if Iowa get Hunter Dickerson. Another flat footed kid. Highly Overrated.

Iowa needs bigs (C 6'10+/ PFs 6'8"+) that can block shots, block out and move to get rebounds, protect the basket or give out hard fouls, have multiple post moves and a decent 12'-15' jumpers to go with the occasional dunk. If the kids cannot dunk well or show some lift, don't offer. Look for kids that can play above the basket and run. Because the supply is limited, that's why a top recruiting staff is needed at Iowa. This current staff sucks!

IMO you toss Barta right now. By the time a new AD is hired it is likely too late for him to make a coaching change before next year.

This helps to burn a little of the buy out, allows the new AD the chance to appear to give Frannie a chance, and also allows him to make the new hire.

I would require the new AD to sit Frannie down and give him mandatory required goals for next year that would be lofty. It would include semi finals in the conference tourney and a sweet 16 appearance. If he makes those goals great. If he doesn't the AD can either toss him or if he improves the program considerably but came up a little short the AD can give him another year and chew up some more of the buyout. The one thing is that I would require Fran to make definite forward progress each year under the new AD. As soon as he goes sideways or backwards he is gone.

Two items. If the new AD wanted to toss Fran immediately and not do the 1 year transitional last chance I'd let him. His show so if he wants to jump right in let him. Likewise if Fran got too chippy about his short leash I'd let the AD cut him loose or encourage him to "look".

The Buyout for Fran right now (until July 1, 2019) is 9 million. After that date, it is 7.6MM (dropping 1.4 per year). Fran's contract salary $2.25MM per year (tied for 10th highest/ 4th lowest in conference and 34th overall currently). Since most recruits don't commit until around August into October, Iowa could rid of Barta now and have a new AD in the fold before the school year ends and a mission to find a guy (double secret probation) who is a top tier recruiter and can build a new staff. I know it won't happen because unless President "Weird" Harrald gets a private donors meeting, nothing will trigger Fran's dismissal short of cause.
