Should Citizens have to pass the basic Civics and Government test used for citizenship to Vote?

Should passing the test be a requirement to vote?

No. Might as well go back to white, male landowners only, and quizzing voters how many jellybeans are in a jar before letting them vote.
Hmmm...a civics and government test is the equivalent of that? Seems like a stretch, but an expected stretch.

An amendment is in order...anyone who couldn't pass that basic test has no business voting.
Before we go that far maybe we should start with requiring candidates to get at least a 90% to be eligible for office.

I am pretty sure Trump would outright fail and I suspect Biden would have trouble now too.

Not really if you study American history. The idea of civics tests is not new, and their inspiration is not to produce a better electorate, it's to produce a smaller electorate.
How about no Fox viewers being allowed to vote?

Immigrants would absolutely destroy American born people in this quiz.
Absolutely! The Frau is going through the citizenship process and she's acing the test at this point.

It's not hard but like I said in the OP.....a lot of Americans would probably fail it.

Which party do you think would be hurt the most by implementing the test?

I’d agree that the ones that actually go through the US citizenship process would. But this is more memorizing certain things about America. They might know the things that are required for citizenship but nothing else.
However the immigrants that didn’t go through the US citizenship would fail miserably.

This would hurt the GOP way more. This would very disproportionately affect low income persons. While this would decrease some urban area votes, it’s not changing much in the political landscape because those areas have been gerrymandered into very blue districts. However, the rural south would have many districts flip red to blue.

Because rural Southerners are all dumb as posts, while corn farmers in BFE Iowa are really savvy.
Got it.

No, and it's an awful idea. However if the idea did somehow come to pass, it would likely lead to D sweeps everywhere based upon the educated vs uneducated breakdown in support of the parties. Maybe then we could finally get some actual democratic reforms passed, such as constitutional amendments to end gerrymandering and allow for open primaries and end federal judge lifetime appointments. You know stuff to fix the structural problems within our society which have allowed MAGA to breathe and grow as a minority movement.

You’re right. The multi generational effort to dumb down students would be an enormous success.

In theory, they have…….I believe in MOST states passing Civics/Government class is required to graduate from HS, perhaps even Jr. High…..
I got a dose of it in both places in my school days….a semester in each, I believe…..
