He may not be playing until next year and will take some time to get his conditioning up.
Given he is a role player at this point with limited minutes maybe he should save this year.

If he can't return this year, he'll like get the medical waiver. But there is no rule allowing freshman to compete in a few events like there is in football or wrestling, once you play you lose it unless it's season ending.

Rumor mill says it’s possibly blood clots….IF that’s accurate, maybe they can make the case in support of a redshirt, that they need the year to evaluate and make sure they have successfully addressed the problem. Even if he’s healthy enough to practice and workout?

Crazy speculation from someone (me) who has absolutely no idea what he’s talking about……..just hope Cooper is/gets healthy and has a great career as a Hawkeye!

Oh crap, blood clots? You don't mess around with those.

You're not the only one giving this take about conditioning. And I think that's just not the case. These are 18-21 year old athletes that are in great shape. It would only take 7-10 days (probably less) to get into game shape at that age and the shape they are in. Especially if they're bench players only getting 10-15 minutes per game or 5-8 minutes per half.

Now if you're talking about rehabbing injuries, that's different and everyone heals at different rates & depending on the type of injury. But conditioning should never ever be an issue for a young healthy college athlete. Unless you're that Jelly guy who was 50 lbs overweight to begin with.

I thought for an injury redshirt you could play in a certain percentage of games. Remember we all knew when Bohannon was going to hang it up after Iowa State for his surgery?

Losing Koch really makea it important for Traore to get back soon. It also makes it really important that Dembele (or the coaches) figure out what he should be doing on the court. I still haven't given up on Ladji, but he sure has been a huge disappointment.
