Silicon Valley in Iowa? Why isn't Steve King in the middle of this effort?

It would be really bad for the area probably. The new jobs wouldn't go to locals, they would be transplants. The new money would raise rents and prices around the area pricing the locals out. They would probably get good tax deals which would leave little going back into the economy.

The locals would benefit by providing services to the transplants. Short term, the grocery stores, restaurants, and everything else would see a major uptick in sales. Long term, it would encourage the next generation of locals to pursue a career in the field, and slow the brain drain that Iowa has been experiencing for decades. A rising tide raises all boats.

Ever been to Jefferson, Brah? People aren't going to transplant in, and there is lots, and lots of property. It would be really hard to drive prices up. I drove through Jefferson and Carrol three years ago when I decided to take US 30 back from hiking in the Loess Hills. Believe me, it will be a long time before people there bitch about transplants and soaring prices.
Will this work? That is the question. Will this keep enough young rural Iowans at home versus moving to Minneapolis, Omaha, Des Moines, IC/CR/Davenport, Denver…

High tech space jobs coming to Iowa?

IT'S HAPPENING!

Maybe not Jefferson, but Carroll, Boone, and Ames.

THIS! An educated populace of transplants is Steve King's worst nightmare. That and having to figure out the difference between Google and Apple.
Liberals should be trying to get a few thousand transplants into small states like Iowa, Wyoming or the Dakotas. Just a few could turn those states blue.

Ames is why Carroll and Jefferson are having problems. At least Boone is close enough to the Ames/Ankeny/Des Moines corridor to be a bedroom community. Carroll can survive as a county seat, regional hub because of it's relative size and services offered. It won't grow, but it can survive. But, towns like Jefferson are just drying up.
Plans like the one Khanna is working on is interesting. And, again, why is a leftist from California doing the hard work while Kim, Chuck, Joni, and Steve make it easier for Big Ag to pollute versus create sustainable, forward looking jobs?

You know this because you drove through on 30?

Weird posts.

They would hate it here. Most in the state still love the country and believe in the things that built this country. Runs pretty counter to current liberal thought.

Iowa will turn back blue in 2020 regardless.

Liberals built this country. We’re taking it back. Run to Russia if you want a conservative paradise.

Carroll, Ia is doing pretty well. I visit once a year for a fantasy football draft and it seems like a nice community. There is a decent amount of money there due to Pella.

The idea of bring jobs to Jefferson is laughable. That place is a dump. There is no way they will draw people there. Des Moines or Iowa City it could be possible.

I would like Keumper to stop doing well in sports. Particularly in basketball.

Seems like a reasonable request.

Maybe they will spend money at the casino. They can use the cash.

You were not supposed to share the secret liberal plot to takeover rural America.
