Silver lining

I think we stuck out plenty today.

The silver lining is this shows we still have a lot of issues that need to be addressed programmatically. This was an unexpectedly great season but we may have covered warts in some cases instead of really fixing them. The warts were exposed when the competition level ramped up.

The main wart is still recruiting. Even watching the Ole Miss-OSU game I see teams with far better athletes. Iowa gets slow plodders with concrete shoes. Look at Jewel on the punt return and opening play.

Other teams having lanky, fast athletes. Iowa gets short, stocky plodders.

I see what you're getting at, and I do agree that we need better athletes. However, I think using Josey as an example is stupid imo. I don't think the first play was on him, and you won't find many linebackers in the country who would make that open field tackle on McCaffery on the punt return.

Tell me again why we even punted the ball to him? It would be one thing if he was an unknown player going into the game but......for a risk averse coach that's about as risky as it gets.

Can't argue with you on that one. There were several questionable decisions today.

I also don't get why we rarely to never play nickle especially in 3rd and >5 yards. I counted a couple times today but that was it.

Unless they mix up divisions again, you guys face off with NW and Neb yearly for that side of conference. I would say Wiscy as well, but they cant keep any good coaches they get.

I don't know who has the better corn between you and Neb, but team wise, I would say you guys are looking better at present. NW will always compete with one hand tied behind their back.

I know today sucks, but the future is bright for you guys.

Wish we could play Mich every week. 12-0 would all be but locked up.
