Since there’s an inverse correlation between the number of white guys and success...

The worst conferences in America are primarily African American
Have you watched any Final Fours over the last 20 years?!??! Aren’t you impressed with the number of white starters for each team??!!??! Out of 20 starters each year in the FF, the avg is probably about 3 white starters. Have you looked at the top 100 high school seniors....3 white guys. So offering 3* white guys is clearly the way to go to build a winner!

Let’s define success. Making the tournament? Second weekend? Final 4? Then we can put pen to paper and hash this out a bit instead of using generic terms. But, let’s be real, if you’re definition of success is Final 4 and you’re an Iowa fan then you’re likely to be perpetually disappointed.

You know that Weiskamp, Luka, and both McCaffery's were 4* top 100 players and Jordan was a low 4*, somewhere between 104 and 120.

In this recruiting class we're bringing in a low 4* black point guard.

Does anyone actually believe that McC is skipping higher ranked black recruits to sign lower ranked white recruits? I hope not because that is a mind boggling dumb belief.

Most Hawkeyes come from Iowa. Iowa is about 98% white. Having more white players is a statistical inevitability.

This is simply not true. Yes most people from Iowa are white, and a solid amount of players from Iowa are on the team, but so are a lot of other out of state players. I’m not saying there racist or anything, but clearly they put more stock into tall white shooters then anything else. evidence is in the pudding

How ‘bout we start with not having double digit losses every damn year!!

Get a grip, people! Fran's been successful at four different institutions, taking all four to the NCAA tournament, including the 3 other schools from one-bid leagues. While not perfect (no coach is) it appears the dude knows what he's doing and knows what he's looking for. I can't say this is his approach, but when I recruited for the two different college teams I coached I wanted good people on my team; I didn't want to be bailing them out of jail or constantly hounding them to go to class and worrying about eligibility, and I didn't want to travel around the country to games with a bunch of jerks. I looked for good players who were also good people, and it worked very well (national coach of the year once and conference coach of the year 5 of the 7 years I was head coach). As a life-long Hawk fan, I like his approach. It appears to be similar to Kirk's, too.

How about one Sweet 16 in almost 30 years. What a track record of success!! It’s been a garbage program for the most part since Roy and BJ walked off the floor for the last time.

Hey, we finally agree on something. That isn’t acceptable. I’m not sure what the answer is, though, unless we want to roll around in the mud just a little bit. I would argue that Iowa’s unwillingness to play around in the gray areas when it comes to recruiting has contributed a decent amount to our overall lack of success in the tournament.

But I'm okay staying out of the gray area.

Listen iowa is ok with being a 20 win team consistently and I guess there’s nothing wrong with that. But what I find wrong with it is the unwillingness to try something new. Kirk has been an ever changing play caller adding new wrinkles to the playbook every year. He sticks to what works, and expands upon that like all good coaches. I can not say the same for Fran

I think having a 90% white roster is new for Fran.

Iowa is always a predominately white team. Not saying that’s wrong because it does work for him making us an above average team. But it just hasn’t been good enough to really contend for a conference title or do anything of substance in the tournament

Alternate facts... what a crock. Iowa has always had a mixture of pigmentations concerning players... some people don’t like it. That says more about them than Iowa Basketball. Talent and effort are the only things that matter on the court, identity politics only matter on fake news and social media. Iowa has been improved with the talent they have had recently, but people such as yourself and ole Roy want to create a pretend issue... because you are not Iowa fans.

The people of Iowa (generally, this applies to most Americans) could give two shits about pigment, take your garbage ass politics elsewhere... go international please.

Who had Bohannon and/or Connor that high?

Bohannon's quick release and range saved Fran from another failed offer. Not many kids with his size and limited athleticism have the uncanny skills he has. Without his release and range he would be a non-factor in the offense because Fran has not put play makers around him. Jury is out on Connor but safe to say neither would be playing in the Big Ten and I doubt at the P5 level if not at Iowa. Connor was better than nobody / Ellingson but has a lot to prove IMO to measure up to whatever lofty ranking (largely derived by playing in Iowa) and this has 0 to do with his last name.

What I find odd is that Evan Brauns looked like the best player on the floor in the few games I saw AND has a nice frame and hops. For some reason Fran wasn't interested or had him as a lower priority than others that seem less athletic with much thinner frames. I don't care about the ethnicity of players but I do care about their athleticism and Fran continues to underwhelm in this department. Wants to play fast but recruits guys better suited to play WI pace.

Iowa State doesn't seem to have a melanin issue.

So, in other words, there's a correlation between the number of black players you have on the team and the issues you're going to have with academics and the law.

Amazing you and Fran McCaffery have this figured out and no other P5 coaches do.

Yet UVA had 3 starters alone this year. Wisconsin back to back final 4s had multiple. Duke when they beat Butler both had multiple starters in title game and Butler made back to back final 4s with them. Or how about KU when they went to back to back title games with 2 white starters from the state of Iowa.

Iowa has had lots of good white ball players and several bad.
Iowa has had lots of good black ball players and several bad.

The only true indicator of good ball players is talent. I want talented ball players. I don't give a flying fart what race they are.

No, over the last twenty years, Iowa has not had a lot of "good" black players, at least not in comparison to white players. Not even close.

This whole conversation is pointless. When you look at the landscape of college basketball over many decades, teams who are the most successful are comprised of predominantly black players. To deny that, is to deny reality. Outside of Rick Majerus's Utah teams of the 90s and Bo Ryan's Badger teams of the 2000s, you will be hard pressed to find successful teams who are pigmentally challenged.

Can you win without a lot of brothas on the team? Yes. Should it matter? Well, think about it. If you want to compete at the highest level, you're going to want to attract the best available players possible. Like it or not, nine times out of ten those players are black.

Now, you're locked into a recruiting battle for a highly rated prospect. Will the racial makeup of the team matter? Well, as much as it would be nice not to give a "flying fart" about race, teenagers often see things a little different. Get the point?

Chris Rock said it best: "They even picked the white kids before me." Yeah, right or wrong, race matters.
