SiriusXM

There are different packages. Anything with Select in the name doesn't include Howard Stern or NFL as well as a few other things. That is the one you can get for 50-60 bucks a year. If you want those channels you need to get one of the packages with Premier in the name. You'll have to pay about $100 a year for those. I also have a lifetime that I got before Stern came. 14 years later it has worked out to just over $1 a month. $2 counting transfer fees.

I got a follow up email from SiriusXM (thanks dealer for giving them my info without telling me). Their "special" offer is the All Access Package for 1 year for $120 (full price $264) or 6 months for $50 (full price $131). Interesting math there. They also offer the Select Package (no Stern, NFL, or Pandora) for $5 per month for 12 months with a free Echo Dot then full price $17 per month.

Thanks. I have so many music options, including Spotify, that I really don't need satellite radio and won't use it much. Still, I like it for the handful of long drives I make per year. I have gotten 6 months for $36ish, but kept hearing about people paying $60 for a year total (including taxes and fees), so I decided that is the most I would be willing to pay. I'm beginning to think that the $60/year that people were talking about wasn't inclusive of the taxes and fees.
They keep giving me a 6 month option of $5 a month. So I keep doing that.

I quit, even at $5 a month. With podcasts, I Heart Radio and Amazon music, it just ain’t worth a $60 bill to me. I don’t travel as much as I once did either.

There are so many great podcasts out there, I don’t even want to hear XM.

I set a calendar reminder in my phone for a few days before the auto renewal date. I call to cancel, they offer a discounted rate to keep me subscribed. Rinse repeat.

echoing the comments: I travel enough through dead zones that it’s worth it. I listen to a lot of pga tour radio, and I’m highly entertained by the dr Laura show. Seriously funny stuff.

Interesting, I couldn’t get any kind of break period from them. We will see a year from now if I get anything when I actually do cancel.

For what it’s worth, I believe you can cancel online.

I had it for years. I got rid of it a year or more ago. The only channel I listened to was 31 (Tom Petty Radio). Outlaw Country used to be good but just like everything in Nashville, it went to shit. Now I just have spotify at $11/mo and pretty much exclusively listen to it.

They are mailing me coupons for $5 a month.

I got a new car before my long drive to my family for Christmas. It has a trial to SiriusXM. I enjoyed it on the long drive for music, listened to bowl games and some news channels as well.

I read up on SiriusXM and there are a lot of customer complaints about customer service. From what I can tell, the product is pretty good, but customer service, marketing tactics, and billing practices are all shady. I read of extended hold times for service or cancelling, bait and switch on what you get, requiring you to call to get a decent rate, and charging cards despite cancelling.

Who has SiriusXM and what are your views on the product and the customer service and charging/billing practices? If I can get the service for a decent price and not have to worry about overbilling or difficulty cancelling I think I will sign up.

Also, what are the best channels? One I ran across that I wouldn't have thought of but love is Comedy Central Uncensored. I ran into horrible traffic, but found that listening to that channel made me much more relaxed about the traffic.
I’ve had it for 5 years on and off in one or both vehicles. You can get it for $5 a month (per vehicle) if you call to cancel and offer them $5 and pay up front for the year. They wanted $100/year and I told them I’m just not in the car enough to justify it. After a year, it will go up to 19.95 a month...rinse and repeat. Mine just went up so I called (to cancel) and they applied $15 (of the 19.95) to the $60 plus tax for this next year..
