The youngest and I shoved off a couple hours ago for our annual trip to the family cabin in the U.P.
45 mins in, one of the boat trailer tires started to wobble.
We made it to the next exit and at the bottom of the ramp the tire all but fell off.
We were halfway between CR and Dubuque.
As we worked on fixing the problem over the next 90 mins or so, no less than 10 people pulled over and asked if we needed help. One saw the jack we were using and stopped and pulled a much better one from the back of his truck to use. He even offered to run and pick up any parts we needed (a couple lugs were damaged and needed replaced).
Ended up calling a local trailer repair guy to come take a look just to be safe.
He shows up 15 mins later with 6 new lugs and nuts, and helps me replace them all. Then he tries only charge to charge me for the parts, $50 bucks. I tell him no way and give him an extra 150 for his time and help.
In just under 2 hours on the side of the road in rural Iowa, 10 people asked if I needed help, 1 lent me a jack, and a small town trailer repair guy tried helping me for nothing.
Most people are good, especially in Iowa.
