So, are we done bad mouthing Iowa players who happen to be in a slump?

That's kind of what message boards are. Places for middle aged and old men to cry about young kids not playing a game as good as the old men want them to.
I think it's a bit shortsighted of you to not include the young and old in this group. Neither are immune to bitch about something they think they know far more about than they really do.

I have often wondered the age of people posting comments. How do you know the ages of all of the posters on this site?

Oh, right! This reminded me to complain about Big Jelly. The heck is up with that guy? It’s like he just ghosted. So lame.

First Sandfort then Tony.

Some of you guys need to chill.
Both of these situations are interesting.

With respect to Sandfort, Fran appears to have made the right moves by first pulling him out of the starting lineup and then drastically reducing his minutes in the 2 games prior to him breaking out of his slump. He encouraged Sandfort to keep shooting at a high volume, but only played him 9 and 8 minutes in those 2 games in an attempt to limit the impact that his poor shooting would have on the team. In those 2 outings he launched 12 shots in 17 total minutes going 0-12. It didn't result in wins unfortunately, but it did apparently result in Sandfort breaking out of his funk.

With respect to Perkins, Fran only played him 16 minutes against Michigan after 3 consecutive poor performances and Tony came back strong. When asked what changed he just said he'd been playing poorly and that he wanted to play better. He knew his play was suffering.

I think Fran is showing more of a willingness to adjust minutes for key players when a player is obviously struggling. That's a good thing. He seemed less likely to do that in previous years.
I think criticism of a player's game is fair as long as things don't start getting nasty and personal. I see many cross the line, though.
Totally agree. Commenting on poor play or Suggesting that someone should be playing less minutes is what these forums are for, but calling someone trash is way over the line. I might have butted up against it after the game where Sandfort launched 9 missed shots in 9 minutes by referring to him as the poor man's Austin Ash. It was a joke, but inappropriate nonetheless.

Should've never happened in the first place. Makes it easy to spot folks with whom you probably don't want to engage if you're looking for the silver lining of lunacy.

There’s a difference between having a different opinion and being stupid and reactionary. Everyone who has played basketball has gone through rough stretches. Fans who are unbalanced and unhinged (and likely never competed at a high level) don’t understand that. And it’s those fans I’m strongly suggesting should sit a lot of these discussions out.

These posters are trying to build up their resume for being a superfan. Crap on other poster's with different opinions to make your fandom look better. Also being a superfan means that these message boards need to be an echo chamber.

Back to this sock thing. I find sitting on stairs helps tremendously. Also i agree with the op.

Same reply as I usually have to OPs like this: it's a ****ing internet message board. Spend your holier than thou energy on something important
I thought i was on the interweb. I did enjoy the sock discussion and agree we should not call the players bad names.

It's just well intended motivation, that's all......... ;)

Kinda like a dad yelling at his son from the stands during a sporting event when he's not playing well. It all comes from a place of love..............

I’m guessing he was a stud bball player in junior high school.

Weak-minded people like him are easily triggered.

YES

No way. Go Iowa Awesome’s negative posters are directly responsible for Sandfort and Perkins pulling out of their slump. They thought they were actually doing a fine job prior to reading this message board. It would have happened sooner, but they kept going to Hawkeye Report and couldn’t get past the paywall. Someone get these guys a dollar. So all I can ask is, which slumping Hawkeye do we save next?
