so both isu men's and women's teams make the sweet 16

Iowa owes Fran a lifetime contract for what he has accomplished here.
Wait what? What has he accomplished here? He is barely an improvement over Alford and isn't as good as Davis when looking back at the past 4 coaches. Iowa has yet to find someone that can get them back to a Sweet 16 or better since Davis's last year in 1999. Fran has failed to get Iowa past the 2nd Rd.

We are on the same page.

I just can not comprehend how a coach can't keep a team play with more consistency and drive. They just won the bigten. Maybe next time lose the bigten for a break before the dance

What's really the point of this thread? Don't we have enough of McCaffery bashing in every other thread? Or are we supposed to include Bluder in the hate now? How about throwing in the Brands for good measure? God grief this all gets o old. Most of you bashers quietly crawled into the woodwork when Iowa was on their winning streak and won the BTT. Now you're back in full force. Is this what your fandom is all about? Ignore the good and emphasize the bad?

Fran has been a pretty solid coach for Iowa. He definitely has some good and bad.

Good: He's taken us to the NCAA tourney 7 of the last 9 years. That's pretty damn good. Yes I know 2020 tourney was cancelled, but we would have landed in the tourney. 9 of the last 10 years, he's had us finish 6th or higher in the Big Ten. That's pretty damn good.
Bad: Sweet Sixteen's absent. It's just a damn mystery why we can't catch a break or play better in the tourney. Iowa just beat two teams that are in the sweet sixteen in the last two weeks, so it's not that we aren't good enough. So damn frustrating.

I have said Fran should be fired every season since sometime after season 4. The sad thing is this is absolutely his best season. Except for the NCAA tourney its the ONLY season his team has finished strong. They did great down the stretch of the regular season and Conference tourney. I will also argue winning a conference tourney is just as good as a sweet sixteen, and a regular season championship is somewhere between an elite 8 and Final Four and in a real tough league maybe on par with the Final Four.

Do I think Fran has figured it out? I doubt it, but he solidified his position this year not weakened it.

So called fans just drain the blood out of the real fans. So tired of them.

I'd pull for UNI or Drake over Wisconsin but never ISU. I don't care who ISU plays against in any sport I will not pull for them.
I was just hoping for a random Russian nuke to come and obliterate the arena. Was that too much to ask for? Complete nuclear anihilation over having to watch, let alone "go for" one of those teams?

You're correct. This team had some holes in it like most do (a legit center being the obvious IMO), but they drew much late season praise for their record down the stretch and rightfully so. Many "experts" had them as legitimate Final Four contenders, not just Iowa fanboy types.

And then first game in the shots don't fall. Guard play was abysmal the last two years in the tourney, damn near invisible and ultimately that's what hurt them the most IMO. We still had a chance to win late and it didn't materialize, then see Richmond get run off the court the following game was disheartening as well.

But that doesn't mean they didn't have a really good year, because they did IMO. They became a threat, and then just like that they weren't. Shoot bad you'll lose a lot of games. They shot bad, season over.
