So, do we hate Ferentz again?

Coming from someone who knows very little about coaching and little about college football. Iowa has never been or will ever be a Ohio State or Michigan. Recruiting 4-5 star players to Iowa has been almost impossible. Location and the smaller population of Iowa gives Iowa a smaller pool of HS players to draw from. Iowa's out of state recruits are mainly 3-2 star recruits. Competing against schools like MSU, Nebraska, Wisconsin, ND, OSU, Michigan, Illinois, for some of the same recruits doesn't make it any easier. Having watched Iowa in the before Fry era, I'm surprised at times how far the Hawks have come as a football program. Iowa football could of very easily become a Purdue, Indiana, or Illinois type program. Instead Iowa is basically in the same boat as Wisconsin, Nebraska, and MSU. I credit Fry and Ferentz for that.

With all due respect, I don't buy or believe your recruiting philosophy! You play fun, winning football and the kids will come!!

There have been several programs from challenging demographics create great programs, just go two hours east of Des Moines and you have one of the most successful.

I've been following Iowa since the late 70's and think what Hayden did here was amazing!! Win or lose it was going to be exciting! He won before scholarship were limited and rarely lost to bad teams!

KF is a nice guy, great representative of Iowa and the program. Not a great football coach and being great is not a priority at Iowa. It starts with Barta. Just look at the contract, incentives begin with the eight win...now let's set the bar high!?!

That being said, I will always be a Hawk! Win or lose! I will question the crazy stuff he does until the day I die or he finally leaves.

I can't understand why a football program can't win 11 games every season. We should simply get a new coach that can. That strategy is working well for Illinois, Nebraska, Minnesota, Purdue - we should do it too!:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

There's a large portion of the Iowa fan base as well as this board that actually believes that.

"All Iowa has to do is hire a young coach who uses an exciting style of play and Iowa will win bigger than Ferentz ever dreamed".

I am firmly convinced that the reasons posters and fans that hate KF hate him for the following reasons.

a) all it takes is a guy running the spread or read option etc and recruits would come here in droves - therefore Ferentz' style is what is holding Iowa as a program back
b) they abhor his salary because they equate salary to wins (more you make, more you should win), therefore Ferentz is ripping us all off.

For "a" above...Rich Rodriguez at Michigan, Brian Kelly at Notre Dame, and any number other examples across the nation where that rule did not work - mostly in schools which have immense geographical and historical advantages Iowa will never enjoy. And for "b" above, Iowa once hired a high school football coach because they went cheap.

Iowa goes young, and for some reason it actually works, all Iowa did was groom that guy for a job at all the blue blood schools that will pay him double what Iowa did while enjoying fertile recruiting grounds we never will profit on.

So, you overpay for steadiness, consistency, and a much higher floor while acknowledging the ceiling will always remain what it always has been (imho a 1-2 times every 10 years type rate).

So, no. I don't hate Kirk Ferentz. He pisses me off now and then...but I'm smart enough to know that chances are better than 80% the next guy will drag us all down to Iowa State's level IF we follow what the morons of this board want to happen.

Yep. The good news for me I guess is that every time the University of Iowa enriches the Ferentz Family some more, they save me money at the same time. Money not spent traveling long distances to watch Iowa Football in person.

Kirk's mundane Offensive philosophy would probably work OK if he could package that with a stifling Defense, but the chances of that happening pretty much left with the departure of Norm Parker. If I were Kirk I'd keep beating the bushes for the best Punters you can find, that seems to be helpful.

Anyway, I thought we might have seen glimpses of a New Kirk last year, but that was mostly for show apparently. Kirk's had some good wins, but far more head scratching losses. Look for that to continue in the next ten years.
WELL PUT. TO THE POINT.NUFF SAID!!

They also see Wisconsin's success with multiple HC's and think we could do that just as easily.
