Unfortunately it’s a 1 team race. PSU then Iowa about 20ish points behind them. Then everyone else
I agree but iowa has a lot of good going in this year. 1-3 champs, a four timer, and what? 6+ all Americans?
Just so I can be hated I’ll say psu can have 3-6 individual titles. Six not likely , most likely 4-5. I mean I don’t want people to really like me , right?
That said I would not count Cass out and Woods has a good shot too. Warner is probably too 4, and murin and up looks like 3 could make the top 8.
For psu I think Dean is looking very good with Kerk also solid. My six which is that fan boy silliness is Haines going on a run, but that’s hopium as of now . But please credit me for “calling it” if he pulls it off lol.

PSU has (gulp) 4 defending champs. A lot has to happen for the Hawks to overcome that. The margin for error is pretty small. Positive signs tonight vs a watered down Michigan squad.
I don’t think it will be a 20 point difference….. It will be a lot more than that.
Anyone who thinks the battle is for anything other than 2nd is kidding themselves.
With my homer drunk glasses on, I could see Iowa with 5 in the finals. 125, 141, 197, HWT, and 149/165.
Now saying that, 2 champs, a couple thirds, and 3 more AAs would be a very good tournament for the good guys. Good enough to lose by 20.
Last I looked the gap between 1 & 2 was about as big as 2 & 18. It's a one team race. I love. The hawks but let's be serious Penn State could have 5 National Champs pretty easy.

Yeah….no. PSU tends to over perform at nationals, they’re 32-13 in the finals since Sanderson took over and something like 90% or more in the semis.
If any of their guys makes the semis I just start assuming they’ll win. Did you see their record in the finals since 2017? Oh their guys make the semis they’re probably winning.

Based on the polls if Iowa over performs by 20% & psu under performs by 20% it will be a race.
You don’t think 2020 was a lock for Iowa but you’re crowning all the PSU guys champs and their whole team will overperform. Got it.
Go back and see their performance in the finals since 2017 to now . Then go back to 2010.
Iowa is 5-3 since 2017, PSU is 19-23 I believe . And running at 70% since 2010, past performance is about the best way to predict current results unless we have some solid reason to say differently.
So how did iowa do on an individual basis championship wise in 2021?
There are two games being played , team points and the individual bouts. 75% team wise since Cael started and 70% individual wise and 90+% since 2017 makes me think assuming success for his teams isn’t a crazy bet.

I ran some numbers earlier in the year. And I thought it would take a season ending injury to one of their big five at 133, 174, 184, 197, and Hwt for Iowa to have a chance. Now I don’t even think that would be enough for iowa. Heck I could see PSU only having two champs, with Fix winning in his home state, Parris at Hwt, and 197 being a crapshoot, and it still wouldn’t be close.
I think Spencer and Real win NCAAs, with Cass and PK top 5s. For PSU, I see 3 champs and 3 others in the top 2-4. Would love to see Warner, Murin, Cobe, and Assad AA but it’ll be tough. Also Brands is going to be a tough out. Depending on the path I could see him having a chance at the podium due to his defense.

I can definitely see all of that, I lean to 4 or 5 because I think Dean is peaking and Kerk has a great shot but 3 is a pretty solid possibility.
I know I’m preaching to the choir, but Iowa was as much of a lock in 2020 as any team for a couple of decades. They absolutely demolished the Big Ten, which contained all potential threats in the team race, and that was with #2 seed Kaleb Young failing to place. Nobody was coming anywhere close to Iowa in 2020. The Hawks had margin for error coming out their ears. PSU wasn’t going to finish in the same solar system and wasn’t even a lock for a team trophy. Anyone attempting to claim Iowa was anything but a lead pipe cinch for a national team title in 2020 is letting his/her anti-Iowa bias seriously cloud his/her thinking.
This is basically true but PSU was getting a trophy. Hall, Cenzo and RBY would have had 55 pts between the three of them.
Point remains that Iowa was head and shoulders above the rest.
I believe PSU tied for 4th at the B1G tourney in 2020.
I think Kerk will win; losing to Mich was a fluke. I think Dean loses in the semis…97 is a crazy weight.
