He was listed as MVB's backup on yesterday's two deeps.

I know he went to Iowa Western and a Sioux City HS. One reception against Miami...otherwise, no clue.

WRs that need to step up: Scheel and Smith. McCarron and Nash aren't going to be guys that make a huge difference but Smith and Scheel have the potential too.

At 6-2 he is a bigger body than some of our other WR's. I don't know if he has the speed to get open. Im hoping he turns into a Eddie Hinkel Possession guy. Let Smith, Scheel run deep. If Nash can be the guy who goes across the middle and makes the catch, that's all we need.

If he is a "Ed Hinkel Possession Guy" he probably would have been playing

Fwiw-Hinkel ran a 4.53 at the combine...I have no idea what Nash runs.
According to this site, Nash has run a 4.48

According to this site, Nash ran these track times as a senior at SC East:
100 meters: 10.97
200 meters: 21.92

Nash is plenty fast. Must be quick enough also to earn a spot on the depth chart.

He originally committed to play for UNI out of high school then subsequently decided to play for Iowa Western CC instead before joining Iowa and redshirting last year. I have not seen an interview with him about his decision but I assume he wanted to play at a Division I-A program and enrolled JUCO to make his case. Iowa noticed. Definitely a player to watch going forward.

... just noticed that Nash is a high school state record holder for most pass receptions in one game - 21 - in a game against Urbandale.
Urbandale coach to defense at halftime: who's got Nash? Urbandale players: silence.

Q. What can you say about Ronald Nash?

KIRK FERENTZ: I talked about Riley's progression a few minutes ago, and Ronald is not at that spot or he'd be playing as much as Riley, but we've watched him grow and develop with every turn. He came here last year, pretty much worked on the scout team and what have you, in the spring got some work, but every phase he's gotten better and really has got better since the start of camp. He's gotten a lot of work since we got started, just hasn't had a lot of game activity, but I think we've seen his confidence grow. He's a big guy with good skills. Hopefully it's his time.

......sort of a mixed message from Kirk there. I read that to mean its McCarron's job right now but if Nash shows he is ready in practice, he will get the nod to start (or more realistically, significant playing time vs. Northwestern - which is likely to happen IMO).

I think you will see Scheels reps increase and it will mostly be Riley, Smith and Scheel with Nash and Young worked in some.

Won't matter if we have Randy Moss, Keyshawn Johnson, or Michael Irvin running patterns if CJ has to be running for his life again.

Are you referring to the Rutgers game? I thought he had enough or more than enough time in the pocket in NJ. The protection broke down against NDSU but was much better at Rutgers IMO. I know CJ was sacked a couple of times but those appeared to be coverage sacks ..... in which case Randy Moss and Michael Irvin running routes would have helped a great deal.

Rutgers is not a very good team. I surely HOPE CJ has time to throw, but our combo of O-line/WRs leads me to believe our offense is going to be pretty much a one trick pony.

This year is starting to resemble some Hawk teams of the past. Came into the season with a lot of hype and the performance to date has been underwhelming.

Last year this team had a lot of breaks fall their way and won a lot of close games. this year... it looks like the bad karma has returned.

7-5 looks like a very real possibility to me.

Morehouse pointed out that PFF blamed CJB for two of the sacks.

The offense is disjointed in general right now. Lets clean it up against Northestern.
