"Top" college football programs. Yeah.
Zero national titles.
Zero number one NFL draft picks (and a whopping 2 first-rounders).
Zero Heisman winners.
Zero non-shared conference titles (and zero shared titles in over a century).
For the longest time, it had zero major bowl appearances, but was gift-wrapped a Fiesta Bowl berth against an Oregon team that played like they had Covid.
ISU may no longer be the coaching graveyard it was before Matty C, but a few decent seasons doesn't erase a century of mediocrity-at-best, futility-at-worst. They may as well build him a statue if he can win a much-more-navigable B12 now that Texas and Oklahoma have bolted for the SEC.
With the money major conferences now get it's almost impossible to languish at the bottom perpetually is you're in the P5 er... P4. Everybody can afford good facilities and and a decent coach. Most teams manage a good season here and there where they can get to a bowl game.
That said, ISU still sucks.
