I get that we don't want NATO to be a free lunch anymore, but we risk showing weakness when engaging in this kind of talk. Saying this out loud is dangerous when you have Putin types in the world on the doorstep of Europe.

Trump is hyper-transactional, i.e. "nothing until you pay", and I think that's just his perspective on everything. But global politics ain't real estate deals, and we as a country can do better.
