Softball recruiting

That this W. Ill pitcher was one strike from a no-hitter says very little. This Hawkeye lineup makes just about any pitcher look good. A 3.5 ERA in a weak conference is not great, which makes last night's offensive display truly embarrassing.

Iowa's problem is NOT pitching. Our pitching staff is one of the best in the B1G.

I agree with you. Iowa's problem is not with their pitching. She would still find a place on this team.

The Western Illinois pitcher was one of the top players coming out of Iowa a couple years....both at the plate and from the circle. I believe she may have earned conference freshman pitcher of the year honors at Western Illinois. She is a very good athlete and is from the Solon area. Having her and Doocy together would be a tremendous tandem.

My point for saying this is just a reiteration of several posters above. Hawkeyes need to dominate recruiting in their own state and perhaps bordering states....and then grab some legitimate southern/western state blue-chippers. As it stands now, they are not getting top tier talent from the warm states....and unless they have an Iowa connection, I'm not sure 2nd-3rd tier warm state kids are cut out for cold weather BIG10 softball. Rick Heller employs a similar coaching philosophy for Iowa Baseball, but he has it a little easier as he is the only show in the state, whereas softball carries 4 D-I programs.

The Hawkeye softball team has had some excellent wins this year.....and I believe they could turn it around long term by grabbing the best kids Iowa has to offer in the future.
