I was starting to wonder. Brands had him working takedowns 3 times before deciding to let him finish it.
no disrespect meant. didn’t mean this as “he’s bad”. just meant that he’s always gotten into scrambles off his shots and will probably keep doing it, mostly because he attacks low. he’s very solid and i hope he breaks through this year.

my position is that i would hope all involved would have acted more maturely. spencer as a 6th year man and face of the program should not be showing up teammates like that. you’re spencer lee. ayala’s family should not be airing dirty laundry.
but @Gobblin is also right. it’s toms responsibility to manage the relationships on the team, especially between two such important pieces. if there is any hint of animosity there, the match doesn’t happen. this relationship needs to be ironed out. if that includes taking spencer down a notch, reminding him who he is and what he means to the program, so be it.

Wait, so are we to believe Tom should take Ayala’s feelings into account and not the fact that this is a damn wrestling tournament and they are scheduled to wrestle.

Thank you…I’ve watched it three times. Still trying to figure out what everyone is up in arms about? Doesn’t look like he’s even jawing at Ayala afterwards…Drake exits screen to the right, Spencer turns to the right and says some thing towards a different direction, then takes out mouthpiece and says something else-seems like nothing there to me
Ironic that this thread has more drama than anything that happened between Drake and Spencer.
Lol. This has nothing to do with feelings. Drake is a big boy and so is Spencer. Tom can pull both aside and say “listen I’m calling the shots here. We’re not wrestling tonight.” Shit show avoided simple as that. Again there was nothing for either wrestler, let alone the program to gain from wrestling this match. But it did and, viola! More unneeded drama.

The only drama is from family and fans. They wrestled. Drake got his ass kicked. Drakes family got a bit too emotional and blabbered on social media. Yawn. Big deal.
I guess I want to know what is there to gain in wrestling any match outside of the National Tournament then? You don't think Spencer needs some good matches before then? You don't think Ayala could use the experience of wrestling a 3x (soon to be 4x) National Champ? You don't think that the (possibly) most popular wrestler in Iowa History MFFing at the first every SoldierSalute would be a bad look?
There was a lot to gain from the match. There is the normal amount of risk as any other match. I'm not sure Brands can really concern himself with a parent getting butt hurt.
You can keep repeating that there was nothing to gain as many times as you want. It won’t make it true.

Drake is not in the picture because Drake was not “part of the team”. He was wrestling unattached.
I think the quicker we all move on from this the better. Happy to see some of our guys get multiple reps in this weekend.
Eh, I don't think the attached/unattached rules apply to the photos afterward, lol. That said, I agree it's a small thing in the end. I don't think Real is in the photo either.
I am normally a big Gobblin fan as he is sharing inside info that we would otherwise not get. But I do feel like you are maybe over heated at the moment and talking out of emotion and possibly even closer to Ayala than what you have let on. I do think Brands could have made the ultimate decision, but Brands has said many times it is an individual and selfish sport. If Ayala didn't want to forfeit, and Lee didn't want to, then what option do you have? You could tell one of them to forfeit and then the other one is upset. In this case he let them go and Lee got the pin, and let Ayala know he should have forfeited.
Also for the people that are saying anything negative towards Ayala's mom, relax. Her son just got beat and she thought Lee was not classy in his reaction. Right or wrong that is her feelings in the moment and doesn't meant that she is anything other than a mom watching her kid. I think all parents should be off of social media at all times, but that is just my approach. Ayala is still a huge part of the program and he will be a great wrestler for us in the future. This was one match and I think, or hope, all of this is blown over tomorrow.
