you can’t always get what you want!
Not all the songs I heard were traditional German drinking songs.....I spent some time at Hofbrau House and then at the Fairgrounds (the Paulaner and Sparta tents, primarily)....These songs in fact, surprised me......
*Satisfaction
*It's Now or Never (complete w/ "cha-cha-cha" at the end)
*Pretty Woman
*Something Stupid (yes, Frank and Nancy's!)
*Take Me Home Country Roads
*Johnny Be Good
*Hey Baby!
*Great Balls of Fire! (Jerry Lee's birthday)
*Sweet Caroline.....massive crowd participation

It wasn't all "Beer Barrel Polka" and "Ein Probst" (which seemingly is played every 20 minutes at ALL beer facitlities!)

Been back a couple of days....and I think I still had fun!

If you didn't hear "Horst Wessel Lied," that's a good thing.

You've never seen anything like it. All the stories you might have heard about it are probably true. Bring your $$$$. ;)

What a great opportunity to embellish some of those stories for HROT....

I know next to nothing about Oktoberfest other than Germans, German beer and German drinking songs are heavily involved. I love the food, but not crazy about German people or their beer. What am I missing out on?

Who cares about song and dance? What about the women?

Germany has a rich heritage of music which makes OctoberFest
a cultural treat. Their popular songs are rowdy and ribald.
Their beer is strong and tasty. Their women are imported from
Norway and Sweden for OctoberFest.

I went to Carnival in Munich about a dozen years ago. I remember a lot of John Denver when I was there. I even have some John Denver on my iPod because I remember partying in Munich to some John Denver.

One of my favorite German drinking songs:

Did you do the slide? Did you at least watch others do the slide? I believe you meant "Ein Prosit"

The "slide" is strictly minor league when compared to many other rides there. It us a large slide, however. But the "Olympic Ring Roller Coaster" was much more compelling to watch. Lots of roller coasters and lots of swinging type ride...that go real high into the air. But compared to the action in the beer tents, this, although impressive, was secondary for me.

The high speed conveyer belt that gets riders up the slide is the must see part of the slide...
