Sour grapes thread

That was targeting when that BS INT happened off the back of a player in 1st half, PERIOD, end of story. Iowa 1st and goal on the 2, INT shouldn't of counted.

I am sure there were some missed calls, but I do not think it was one sided nor do I think it determined the outcome of the game. I think they just had a few players make a few more small plays that determined the outcome of the game. There were at least 3 occasions (including TD run) that they had a player just make a play to get a few extra yards/inches to get a first down. Also the PI on Vandy was actually a really good play by the MSU DB, this is not on the refs, not on the coaches, not on the players, it was just a damn good game and somebody had to win and somebody had to lose....unfortunately as KF said, the clock ran out on us....very proud of the Iowa program for their showing, I am proud of the Big Ten because that was a hell of a game, and I have to give credit to MSU (players, coaches, and fans). MSU fans I encountered were very respectful and very complimentary of the Iowa performance.

I get the sour grapes. But no game is going to be officiated perfectly.

At the end of the game Sparty was penalized 8 times for 80 yards, and Iowa 5 times for 45.

There were probably bad calls going against Sparty too. They even out throughout the game unless it's the 2006 outback bowl, or 13 BTT vs sparty.(still salty about both)

This. I'm a Spartan here. Great game. It's not just Iowa.....but anytime a team loses a close game, the fans focus on the 1-5 calls/no calls that went against them. The winning team just celebrates, but I'm sure I could dig up 1-5 calls/no calls that went against us.

Both teams played their hearts out and both deserved to win.

Michigan, by the way, is the KING of this. After we beat them, their message boards circulated mundane details, photos and vines of every call that didn't go their way. They DON'T mention any call that goes in their favor. Basically, they never commit a penalty and the other teams are all dirty.

I'll only add my 2 cents because of the title of the thread and this has not been mentioned. The hold call on Vande MAY have cost us a TD as his double move clearly left the MSU DB flatfooted and CJ put the ball on the money. Back to back long TD throws may have broken their back but instead its just a 10 yard penalty instead of a TD.

Play of the game for Sparty in my opinion. Vandy had a sure touchdown!!

1. That was not a false start on the MSU FB/linemen. The guy never has to get set, he just can't be moving forward. He leans, but technically is not moving forward so no call. There was no hold on Jewell, if they call that a hold, then every play in football will need to be penalized.

2. The play on Smith was not PI, he made a great play. Yes he had his hands on him, but he didn't impede smith from catching the ball. He caught the one bomb, the other deep throw we had to him, he could of caught it, instead he threw one hand up and tried putting the other one out? Seemed odd, he could of tried catching it and didn't?

3. Special Teams- Punting did not do us any favors. We had some bad punts tonight and it costed us field position. Need to be able to punt the ball farther than 25-30yds indoors.

4. Playcalling- Yeah we seemed tentative early on, but we just got out manned at the LOS. They were physical and I liked the fact we started to throw some screens and sweeps to get to the edge. Just wish we could of converted in the 4th quarter.
I was really disappointed in Kidd's punting as the year went on. I was trying to give him the benefit of the doubt that it was the colder weather the last several games but that was not the case Saturday night. Hoping KF and Chris White have a plan (recruit) to upgrade at punter next year.

I mean some of his punts were horrible and IDK if it was the pressure or what. He just seemed to rush through his kicks and some of them were shanks Saturday night. MSU punter was bombing them and that really flipped the field at times.

I hope Iowa does go and find someone who can be consistent in punting.

Well if a lineman tackling our linebacker to prevent a would-be tackle on the game-winning touchdown is not determining the outcome of the game, then I guess such things have never happened in the history of sport..............(and just like the '06 Outback Bowl, that UNC player was WAY offside)

Or a chop block on a 4th down play with a minute left that gave them first and goal on the 3 instead of 4th and 17 at the 22.

I feel as though the other 185 plays in the game had more of an impact of the game....make a play or two in the other 185 plays and we win and take the "no call" out of the equation. This game was much different the the 06' bowl game, in which it was obvious the officials made such a large impact on the game it was the reason we lost. That is not the case in this game and it is such a losers mentality to sum the entire game up and place blame on one play, I am sure the players and coaches will look at what they could have done better/different.....at least I sure hope so. I also remember a key and questionable holding call on MSU on a pretty big play in the 1st half too, I mean it was not obviously one sided so I am sorry I am just not buying this whole argument

Jfc people. NEITHER of these teams was capable of putting a clean 22 play drive together against the other the way the defenses were playing. Our defense was nails all night and suddenly couldn't stop a thing on that drive. To say Michigan State got away with a lot is a giant understatement. It wasn't one questionable play or situation. It was the whole damn drive. And because they got away with it all, they get to play in the damn cotton bowl for what I feel is underserved chance at a national championship and we get screwed out of it. It was garbage. Absolute garbage and it's gonna take me a long time to get over it. That's not how the game is supposed to be played. Hard for players to decide the game when not all are required to play within the scope of the rules.

Well we had them in 3rd & 8? was there a penalty on that play? Nope they made a great throw and even better catch between 2 hawkeyes.

We had their RB stopped later on it was 2nd and 9 and he juked our guys out and actually got 5 more yards to set up a manageable 3rd and 3/4.

Their RB also later in the drive got stopped behind the LOS and still pushed forward for 2-3yds.

Their RB was the difference on that drive. HE made some amazing plays and I am sorry he is a darn good player. The defense was gassed and this kid just kept pounding the ball down out throats. Yes our defense was good, but they were also on the field for basically 15-20+ minutes of the 2nd half. At some point you break and sadly Iowa did on the TD run. Had him stopped and the kid made another great play.

If our offense even gets 2-3 first downs and milks the clock, we have a better shot. I remember my buddy sitting next to me saying, "if we burn 5min" that will be huge. We didn't and they got the ball back with 9min. They didn't have to hurry or anything.

I thought you guys got screwed on the touchdown. Your #43 was tackled by a lineman while trying to tackle the running back. No call.

You weren't the only team that saw conference officials be sure one team got in over another or no conference team at all. See the "off sides" call against Carolina when they recovered an onside kick against Clemson. It was clearly not "off sides".
