Spencer is Starting vs Northwestern. Here is the Depth Chart

Correct. Unless you have an absolutely dominating OL, you have to get more creative in your formations and play call patterns. Iowa is so vanilla in their schemes there isn’t much for opposing defenses to have to read or try to decipher. The end result is a bunch of defenders playing downhill and flying to the football. Add in the fact your quarterback is immobile and not very accurate and you have the perfect makeup for being one of the worst offenses in college football.
The other frustrating part is when things get tough this staff seems to double down on what they are doing instead of looking at other options. Our OL is the worst in the KF era so you'd think over a bye- week they'd be throwing in some different wrinkles. Instead they did the complete opposite and just kept everything exactly the same hoping for a different outcome against one of the top defenses in the Big Ten. I've never seen a program so stubborn to change from anything.

It's on the coaches if Petras gets seriously hurt behind this line. For his strengths, behind this line - they are putting him in a position to get hurt...

We change out linemen every week, why can we not do it at the QB position?! I like Petras and he was throwing the ball well at the end of last year but something has definitely changed. Right now he is not playing well and needs to sit, but clearly KF is too stubborn to make the change for the betterment of the team, which is truly disappointing!!!
Its called the KF quarterback regress

Didn’t plumb start against Wisconsin? I know he played a majority of the snaps and graded out better than DeJong.

And Kirk says that they have not considered replacing Petras with Padilla so that solves that.

Maybe we should ditch the zone blocking scheme?
We have to. The Cut Block rule the NCAA added 3 or 4 years ago screws the zone blocking scheme. ESPECIALLY when you are playing young, Inexperienced players on the OL.

How quickly could a Gap blocking scheme be incorporated? Depends on how much Iowa uses it, if we do at all... But Zone blocking is not working for this group. Next year...? Prossibly
