Spencer Lee Interview

^^^^Gopher Fan...just thought I'd get that out of the way ;) Spence sounds confident in his interviews...has in most every interview I've seen. Also holds himself accountable too. When he does something dumb, he calls it out. But I'll say this...he has been asked the same questions in different forms from a crapload of interviewers who just really want to ask him one question..."Which college you choosing?"
That's fine Chief, but find me ONE interview with Alex Marinelli or Mark Hall that sound anything like that!!

I know you guys think these kids read these boards, but I'm the only one who thinks he sounds a tad like a prima donna??
------

He doesn't strike me that way.

Confident? Yes. Prima donna? No.

Perhaps you are the only one who thinks that way.

Yes...same thing was said about Brands, Ramos, Metcalf, Gilman...I could go on. Most people (me included) cannot fathom that level of hyper-competitiveness but some of us can appreciate it. Now, if you want the kid to give Crash Davis answers to the media...humble, generic, platitudes...well that's on you. A prima donna expects to be treated differently...show me where he comes off like that.

Sounds like a great kid and I was at the state wrestling tournament in PA this year and to see him interact with kids after he won was really special and makes you realize how nice of a kid he must be.

He wants international success. Iowa. Terry is the best lightweight FS coach out there. Add in the lightweight guys in the HWC and the other practice partners and you have a recipe for international success. ... If Spencer's individual wrestling goals are the main priority, it seems like a no-brainer to go to Iowa. Of course, that is what I thought about Suriano.

Trying to look at this through Spencer Lee's eyes ... Lee was in 1st grade the last time a Hawkeye won a world medal. And he was in diapers the last time a Hawkeye won an Olympic medal. There are lots of reasons he might end up choosing Iowa, but "This place where nobody has had much success at winning world or Olympic medals in your lifetime is the place you need to be if you want to be a world and Olympic champion" is probably not going to be the winning sales pitch.

So your recommendation for Lee would be Nebraska, correct?

With recent medals at University Worlds (McDonough), Jr World (Gilman), and US National FS champions at SR level (Ramos and Metcalf), your argument rings hollow. Iowa has been the best in the country in recent years when it comes to producing FS lightweights.

So you are telling me that Carl can say that he has recent success at producing World Champs & Olympic Medalists?
