I noticed BTN chose not to air the Iowa spring game this weekend. Yet, they show the Rutgers' spring game?

Has BTN ever shown the Iowa spring game? I don't ever recall seeing it on there at least. Is there a reason for that? If this is common knowledge and has already been discussed, I apologize. I just have never heard a reason why BTN wouldn't show Iowa's spring game.

OMG! I think I saw "Michigan St. Spring Game" listed about 20 times this weekend. Good Lord.

Could it be due to the format of how Iowa does their Spring game vs. what other schools do? A lot of schools have an actual game, where Iowa's spring game looks more like a practice with some live scrimmaging mixed in. Not saying this is the case, but I think if we had a true spring game it would be televised more.

I wonder if this has to do with the 25-30 million people that live within 100 miles or so of Rutgers? Nah ......

It should still be televised, regardless of what format you guys used. You were the West champion, and should have been repped better than that by BTN.

BTN must be on their "East Coast Swing" Every single program is the East teams. There has not been one Iowa thing listed. For that matter they have not shown any Nebbie, Wisky or any other West team outside of Illinois. I don't get it.

I thought they would replay some of the Big Ten games this past season, but it is seriously all East division teams.

Still a bit of Old Kirk remains. Just call it a "game" even thought it's not. Iowa misses a great bit of exposure on Big10 Net, but what the heck, 12-0. We have never (other than spring reports/news stories) had the spring "game" on the Big10 network.

Yep, and Iowa isn't clear on what it will be until a week or two before, and BTN needs to have its schedule until then. If at the beginning of spring practice Iowa started pumping the spring game as a game with a modified scoring system, then BTN could have an actual broadcast team. Instead, with them beginning with 7 on 7, special teams, goal line offense, red zone offense, etc. before going to scrimmage, it requires different skills from a broadcaster than what a play-by-play/analyst typically do. It makes it more difficult for BTN to pre-produce the telecast without knowing exactly what to expect.

They could broadcast the scrimmage part only and give analysis to what they saw in other portions. Oh wait, that's too simple of an answer.

That's a ton of people in a small area that don't care about Rutgers football. However, you are sadly 100% correct. BTN will keep pushing that Rutgers product even though nobody cares.

Yes, but how would you plan the timing of a live broadcast when it's done that way? Spring Games/practices are run by the coaches when the coaches want things to run, not by the networks. This way, they can do a BTN2Go telecast, and then edit it and show it on TV later if they wish.

Nobody cares .... yet. If you are the B1G or the BTN, marketing to that area is a big opportunity. It would probably be good for the conference if Rutgers and Maryland became relevant in football - just hopefully not at the Hawks expense. Who knows? This is a long term play for the BIG. Maybe it will be a good market for the BIG in 10+ years.

It could happen. o_O
