This is true. Wow, think about that.

I would like to include Olympic medals, I bet that is pretty close. I also am wondering why Don Nelson was not included in the list, didn't he play at Iowa and won 1300+ NBA games.....

Also, what about famous sports announcers, Ron Reagan for Iowa (only thing I liked about the guy)

Yes, the future Master's and British Open Champion, with 4 President's and Ryder Cups to his name, was not deemed worthy of a scholarship for the Iowa golf team.

Good thing he's still a fan.

I disagree with the best scientist result. Everyone and their brother knows who James Van Allen was and his most famous discovery. I'd never heard of Kornberg nor what he was known for, Besides, Dr. Van Allen was one of the nicest and most approachable geniuses I've ever had the pleasure to meet.

So give Iowa one more point.

I knew this would be most controversial, but Paul Berg, Burton Richter, etc.are all worthy from Stanford. None of them were named Time's Man of the Year, and none were as famous as Van Allen, but I am just projecting that developing a working model of RNA-to-DNA will be more influential long term. I You could definitely argue it a toss-up.

I'm a bit biased, and no disrespect to Kornberg who's obviously brilliant. At the very least we should split a point for Hoover being a native!;)

Best Athlete Alumnus: Nile Kinnick > everyone else

That was what you were looking for.

/argument....ainec.

Another one I struggled with. Sadly, we can never look at Kinnick's athletic achievements in his prime compared to Elway's, because his prime was still ahead of him. I suspect he'd have been the greatest.

I'm not really extreme when it comes to much smokey!
I wholeheartedly disagree, because you are in the top 1% on here when it comes to being a pretentious douche bag....it is a much better place when you are not involved and there have been numerous douche bag posting discussions that your name (along with a few others) are always brought up. That my friend is by definition of being extreme

fine, but none of this has anything to do with the Rose Bowl football game.

Best Actor: JOHN WAYNE.

Sigourney Weaver? Really? C'mon maaaaan!!!

I'm confused. John Wayne was an Iowan who went to USC. He didn't attend either the U of Iowa or Stanford.

EDIT: I just read that Wayne played football under the legendary Howard Jones at USC. Yes, the same Howard Jones that led Iowa to back-to-back undefeated seasons for the mythical 1921 and 1922 "national championship" teams. Hard to imagine they didn't share stories about Iowa.

Non-biased? Stanford is one of the elite universities in the country. Iowa is a good school, but unfortunately can't compare.

Stanford would absolutely kill Iowa in Olympic medals. Roughly 20 to 1, if not worse. Stanford has won 21 straight Directors Cups while Iowa is the worst placer in the B1G.

While this might have some truth to it, you might forget that many of stanford's elite athletic programs are actually not olympic sports(well some of them). Whereas Iowa has at least one medalist on every olympic in wrestling.....however, I am sure Stanford is really good at women's rowing and a bunch of other who gives a crap sports, you have to be if you win the directors cup

If you were trying for credibly, you lost it here.

I think you meant "credibility"? Again I know it's a controversial choice as Kornberg is more recent, but the guy won a Nobel Prize for crying out loud. I also thinkthe implications of his DNA and RNA research will have a longer term effects on the human race. But that's just my humble opinion.

If that turkey got a Nobel prize, I should be President. Van Allen should have 2 or 3 Nobels.

My bad. I wasn't thinking about him not attending iowa. Just that he was from Iowa
