Stay Classy Wisconsin

Never been to a game there, but from what I understand, this is pretty extraordinary as most visiting fans say they love games in Madison.

While punching a 15yo is definitely uncalled for, there are plenty of assholes in every fan base. After the Pitt game, I witnessed an Iowa fan treat another Iowa fan pretty harshly. It was nothing newsworthy, but it really boiled my blood, especially after a win.

It looks bad, but I had a Wisconsin buddy with me in IC in 08 get sucker punched for absolutely no reason on Melrose. It was complete bullshit and and an embarassment

Make no mistake, there are issues with their fanbase. I've been to Madison for a game and in general around a dozen times including football weekends. Iowa fans love it there for some of the same reasons we love Iowa. Passionate fan base, nice stadium atmosphere, and a great bar district. But I must say they tend to have more bad apples than most other fanbases.

The UW-Madison police said they are seeking the public’s help in identifying the man who punched the teenager in the face following the game at Camp Randall Stadium.

The suspect is described as a 20- to 25-year-old man wearing a red shirt and jeans.

Well that narrows it down!!! :)

Having been there a few times, that description even leaves some of the women in the pool of suspects.

Good luck searching through about 23,000 undergrads!

Any incident like this is one too many but equally disturbing to me is that no one tried to stop this guy afterwards or at least follow him so that he could be reported to the Madison police.

Why didn't you do something about it?

Is it the right thing to call people cowards on the internet over things you know next to nothing about?

Unfortunately there are too many people on this site that think it's okay to name call for something as simple as having a different opinion.
I saw a Michigan fan getting harassed by Iowa students after one game, and instead of confronting the assholes I just walked and talked with the Wolverine fan apologizing for the idiots that every school has. If no one is hurt there's no need to confront. That just makes it worse with these immature "fans".

I have stood up for a Michigan and Wisconsin fan, who were about to get assaulted. In fact the Iowa fan and myself did turn into an altercation. But that is just me. I wont watch innocent people be attacked over a football game. Crazy I know, huh.

Most likely not a student. I am familiar with that ramp location and it is about as far as you can get from the student section. Fans are not allowed to change seats at anytime.

I remember seeing that guy in the stands when I was watching the game on TV

Is this where we start talking about how cool fighting is? What are you doing over here anyway boy. Aren't you supposed to be over on the other site, playing footsie with the Fuskers? Go there, talk nice to them, and then come over here and start an argument?

You get your Fusker loving arse back over where the lower IQ types belong.

I have not been to Rutgers or Maryland yet, and I still havn't been out to Happy Valley, but I have been to every other BIG10 venue and the fans in Madison are far and away the worst in the conference. They are way over the top when it comes to being hostile to visitors - absolute criminal acts. The concept of a college game atmosphere escapes many of them.

The animals in the Badger fanbase think not about the safety of visitors and will hurl cans, bottles and other debris down on visitors. About 20 years ago my wife was challenged to a fist fight inside the stadium by a drunk who had tripped an elderly Iowa fan on purpose and took offense to her stopping to help the guy to his feet.

I better stop now...I'm getting pissed just thinking about incidents I've seen.

I also want to add that the friendliest fans are in Champaign. They will good naturedly kid and tease you on the way into the stadium, but go out of their way to make sure they share their tail-gate spread with you. I traveled there 7-8 times over the years and was always treated well. Let's make sure they feel welcome this Saturday in Kinnick.

Done that very thing myself a couplethree times...

My brother in law had Wisky fans that wouldn't let him get to his seat at Camp Randall. Had to get security involved. Dix.

Went to Happy Valley in 2004. Still one of the best games I have ever attended in person.

Great fans, great atmosphere (at that time)

The worst treatment - Wisconsin
By far!!

Good treatment - Northwestern and Penn State.

Re Wisconsin.: not just verbal abuse and harassment, but conceited fans in general. I hope Nebby stomps them.

59-0 Wisky.

EVERY fan base has idiots. When you gather 70,000 people in one place the numbers will include drunks, nice people, casual fans, etc.

It's unfortunate when things like this happen. I have witnessed on a few occasions Iowa fans not being the most gracious hosts. Cheer for your team. Cheer when they win and be if they lose... Life DOES continue on.

As a sidenote: A buddy of mine from Des Moines and two of his friends went to Madison. I asked him how the fans treated them... He said there were no issues whatsoever and a few Badger fans even offerred congrats on the win....

So there are the good people out there. Sadly, the idiots still exist.... EVERYWHERE...

and how many years ago has it been since you were in Madison and personally experienced these types of incidents? The 6 young men tailgating near us said they have traveled to all the B1G stadiums and ranked CR and Madison at the top.( maybe they were afraid I was going to spit on their bacon and eggs or steal their bean bags). Interestingly enough, they said Maryland was their worst fan experience.
I don't dwell on several "incidents" I experienced at Kinnick during the Fry era because I know that they are not representative of the over-whelming majority of the Iowa fanbase. Actually, the worst assault I ever witnessed was outside of Kinnick, in a parking lot near the medical complex when an impatient driver nugged a pedestrian crossing in from of him. The offended (but not injured by any stretch of the imagination) indivdual pulled the driver out of the car and knocked him out, then calmly walked away. Do I warn my friends and family from outside of Iowa that it is a dangerous venue? Of course not- quite the contrary. I have no reason to believe that there are more bad incidents at CR than at Kinnick.
