Stock Market Today: Dow down almost 800 points, S&P 500, Nasdaq tumble after Trump refuses to rule out recession

Canada has been one of our best and fairest partners. I love America but stand with Canada on this one. Trump needs to wage trade war with China and be friends with Canada. Dude should have paid more attention at Wharton.
I agree that there are other targets that should have been the focus.

If you check my post history, I’ve long said Presidents have little to no impact on things like eggs, gas, markets, etc. I said this consistently during Biden, and prior.

However, I agree with DFS’s post earlier, this may be the exception. Most of the time executive actions have a laggard impact, whereas Trump’s actions are having immediate impact.

38k would still be over the 52 week low...does it make sense to expect that to hold with a slightly contracted gdp?
No clue, but I figure that is where I will start slowly buying back in, with the hopes that it continues down so my average looks even better.

I don’t know if that’s the best strategy or not, but it’s what I’m hoping for.

Gonna be another down day. Market is desperate for a rebound. But DonOld will tank any efforts for a come back.

Eh. CPI came in a bit lower than expected. It’ll green candle a few days before Consumer Sentiment Friday.

Barring any tariff nonsense

I read this morning that Europe is planning on imposing duties on us to counteract what we're doing. Not sure if this is new news or if it is already built into the market.

More financial chaos caused by the ego driven, tantrum throwing Bonespurs. So sad for the good ol' USA.

Again, what is the goal of all this? In the Magaest of Maga minds, what is he hoping to accomplish by conducting a trade war with every country on the planet?

I think his goal is to get the experience of what it feels like to be a mob boss or a dictator, or as close as he can get to it.

There is no defense for this. He either:
1. Thinks tariffs are a good idea. Crazy
2. Intentionally is trying to derail the economy because stocks were over priced and he wanted to be in control of whatever narrative of a recovery there is.

Trump views himself as a master businessman and negotiator. Remember when he said trade wars are easy to win? He's mistakenly preached since his first term that imposing tariffs will be beneficial for middle class America. His massive ego and narcissism won't allow him to admit error. No one in his current administration has the courage to stand up to him and explain the truth.

The end goal in the MAGA mind is to prove Trump right even if he's not and it causes pain for all of us.
