SIAP somewhere I didn't read the whole thread on the game, however, is it just complete coincidence that the best game the ladies have played in weeks was the night Hannah was out? I'm not trying to be negative but was there something schematic that changed last night? i'm honestly confused how they could go from a complete mess to looking like the team we had all expected. Was it just better execution, more focus just because they knew she was not there inside? Im honestly perplexed.

She was out against Oregon as well. That didn't look so great.
Good point.
Forgot about that.
Did it look to anyone they were doing anything different scheme wise? Or were they just making shots.
I mean maybe it's just that simple? Making your layups?

They moved the ball better and took what they gave them. Nice flow to the game until the subs at end of game.
they just looked completely different last night. Good development. Maybe they can get on a little run here.

Is the doom and gloom over for now? Jan is over her head. Quit throwing in to the post. Lucy may not be able to turn it around, time running out. All freshmen need to start with Syd and Kylie on the bench. blah blah freaking blah blah blah.

It wasn't perfect, but none of them are.

While I'm hopeful this becomes a trend, we're still turning the ball over at an atrocious rate. Valuing your possessions and taking care of the ball on offensive sets needs to be a priority if we expect to win many more games this season.

Tiresome isn’t it…and they hate being called out

making shots can hide a lot of bad mistakes

Hannah is a solid player, just not a difference maker IMHO

Definitely… it can also make you think the flow was better, the spacing was better, etc. etc. It’s not likely 20 games in a whole bunch of shit changed against Washington when we still committed 23 turnovers.

Obviously making shots at a high rate helps. But, spacing and ball movement are also better than when both Hannah and another big are in the game. HS playing the 4 and standing out on the perimeter allows defenders to play our shooters differently.

It's 100% not her fault, but she's a 5 in a 4's body.

Keep in mind she didn’t play last game either

They screened better to get both Lucy and Taylor some time to get a clean shot off. Much easier to be on target getting the ball on time and with some space to shoot. Yes, this made a big difference for those two players, and credit goes to the coaches and players.

There was also more effort to dribble the ball to the lane--every guard. (Probably no coincidence.) This created some movement the offense has needed, resulting in points. Credit to the players and coaching.

Coaching happens. It's not all just the ball going in the hoop. It's helping the players recognize things. The players responded, got better spacing, and found themselves getting good looks.

Not sure why recognizing that difference would be controversial. Just applauded. Will they continue this? We'll see.

Saying that Hannah isn't a difference maker is some recency bias. She has come up huge the past two seasons. 23 points in the Final Four against UConn, for example. Problem is that she's not a natural four.
I think that's what he meant, she was a good complement on last years team. Same w Afolter.

You always look better when your making shots, and it effects the other team as well. We haven't shot well, especially from three for awhile. I not convinced that will keep up either, but we'll see....

I'm still on board with this idea.

I could be wrong as I am a lot, but there doesn't seem to be a whole bunch of those posters around today.
And then there are posters who are quick to point out how smart they think they are and call out others, when they finally play well. 1) Clearly they have not played well for awhile. 2) Most of the posters are simply pointing out obvious issues, its not like most of us want them to play poorly or lose. 3) EVERYONE is aware of the impact that CC22 had on the program and the game, and that she's gone. No one needs to keep pointing that out. 4). When you shoot really well the game looks totally different. They had a nice night shooting the ball. VERY good to see. Lets see if its a trend or a blip. They'll need to shoot probably as well, if not better to hang with USC next week.

Yep, until next game when they don’t shoot 70% from 2 & 3 and then suddenly the bad coaching will be back🤷‍♂️.
the 70% was reached by 2 point shooting not just 3. most of that was cutting and off ball movement. That was not there before.
We do shoot much better when the other team doesn't have a tall shot blocker.

Here’s the deal 23 turnovers is a shit ton… So we can all tell ourselves everything was moving better, but 23 turnovers tells a different story. That’s not “moving better” I’m not trying to be a dick here, but let’s remember I’m the asshole simply because I want people to stop constantly complaining about the coaches… That’s what makes me an asshole. I’ve simply pointed out albeit in a bit of an irritating way that good or bad coaching is simply a manner of winning… but we still had 23 turnovers.

We won because we shot 9 of 13 from three-point and and 71% shooting from 2.

I can assure you on the Washington message board they’re claiming we only won because we shot it better than we have all year

I keep forgetting one other big point. We know Jan has been around forever but when you are a first year HC that’s a big learning curve. I would have to believe that’s just another little piece

I think this is about the 12th time you've told us nothing changed offensively last night except shoots fell. Are you trying to wear the opposition down?

2. But many are saying more than just pointing out obvious issues and that's something some of us get tired of. There has been plenty negativity here the past several games. You feel free to point out what you want and I will do likewise. No problem.

Bingo… I can’t speak for others, but it’s definitely not about being smart. It’s about trying to enjoy a child’s game without people sitting on couches, running the folks in the arena into the ditch!

That makes it very un enjoyable. And shooting 70% overcomes a lot of ills, including 23 turnovers. Ball movement, spacing and penetration couldn’t have been very damn good if they still threw the ball away 23 times…. You don’t have to be a very smart fan to know that.

Agreed. I'm sure a lot of people are having a hard time adjusting from being "the toast of college basketball" for the last two years to what has been happening. Looking back much of its not surprising, and should have been expected.

Shocked we could win on the road by 24 while losing the turnover battle 23-14. Mr. Naismith would be pleased that putting the ball in the basket appears to be number 1 key to victory.
