Brendan Sullivan took some time to reflect on his journey from Northwestern to being Iowa's starter this afternoon.

Though he's grateful for how things have transpired, he's focused on putting it all together again against Wisconsin on Saturday.

Good article! Thanks OP.

"Now that he's the starter, Sullivan knows his mentality can't change, and though there is satisfaction from his performance against his former team, he can't rest on his laurels."

Hey, he had a good game! But I'm not sure if he has any laurels yet. ;)

He's thrown for just 90 yards in 8 games for an average of 5 yards per completion. A little soon to be throwing around the words "grateful for his success."

So, while I agree totally that the passing numbers are meager and the sample is small, he came off the bench cold and led the team from behind to a comfortable victory. That's success in any arena. In addition to that, his QBR in that limited sample is 30 points higher than that of Cade. I'm not going to compare him to Dillon Gabriel. I'm going to compare him to the alternative. If you rewatch his performance, you will see that the guy played really well, and the offense performed at a high level with him behind center. Let's hope it continues.

Good write-up.

I think we see the best version of this offense going forward. All teams will respect the RPO much more with Sully back there. Should be fun.

I mean this is what it comes down to. While to the people way smarter than myself, this is probably oversimplified but there's essentially three plays you have to train for: pass, run, combo with the read/pass option.

Nobody took Cade serious throwing the ball so they load the box and come off the edges hard. Same can be said with the RPO with Cade because you target the RB and cover the routes from TE and WRs. Thanks to some blocking and mostly the immense talent of KJ2, we have still been successful despite teams only focusing on really 1 thing we can do.

No matter what, the offense improves because Sullivan has proven to be elusive and dynamic. His deep ball and passing accuracy is TBD but his legs are in play. That is already one more thing than we had before.
