*****Summer Olympics Thread🏅*****

Men's Olympic soccer is such a crapshoot. U-23 tournament with 3 overage players. It's also not a FIFA break so clubs aren't required to release their players. That said, hopefully we don't get crushed by France today

Is the US Olympic soccer coach the interim USMT coach then? Is this our main A squad or a younger group?
It’s our U-23 team w/ three overage players. We chose two center backs with big game experience (Miles Robinson and Walker Zimmerman) and a center mid in Djordje Mihailovic. Different manager.

So the goal today, as France is considered the #1 contender, is probably a draw?

Probably only a few of these players will end up being regulars on the senior men's team

Just realized that the US U23 manager is Marko Mitrovic, former assistant coach of the Chicago Fire. The breakout young center midfielder for the Fire during his tenure?: current US Olympic starter Djordje Mihailovic.

And 1-0 from distance the other way from France. Crap. We’ve totally outplayed them, but Lacazette just has such individual quality.

AMAZING save from France! Almost 1-1 straight after 1-0. Then hit the post again! Ugh

EDIT: 2-0. Shame, as the US has played better as a team. France is just deadly from distance.

If population carried any weight in sports, India and China would dominate all sports for the infinite future. Since it doesn't, then we take a loss to a country that's main sport is rugby.
And we tied France, a large, host nation who just happens to be the current world champions in rugby sevens. We are in good position to get to the quarterfinals there.

What a match for the US against the current Rugby Sevens world champions! Listen to the French boo birds at the end (required you to click on the link):

USA vs Uraguay at 8 AM tomorrow morning on USA Network for a shot at the quarterfinals.

When do they start swimming in the sewage-filled river?

They put some $1.5B into cleaning up that river. Better only be partially filled.

From the article "Public swimming in the Seine has been banned since 1923, after officials determined the water was unsafe, " but good luck Olympians!
