*****Summer Olympics Thread🏅*****

Closing Ceremonies are always kinda lame and weird. I think countries try to out weird each other.
Is that Tron reject supposed to be the Olympic flame or something?
Well the frogs nailed it then.
I also call bullshit.
The Chinese had great opening and closing.

I swear to god all the people who say CC shouldn't be on the team or shouldn't get any minutes have not watched a single minute of the WNBA this year

I mean: keep white knighting. Reeves wouldn’t have played her today. Them is facts.
You don’t know that. Taurasi didn’t play cuz she’s slow as molasses on defense. Clark’s passing and shooting ability definitely would have helped Team USA. It’s already been reported that Clark wasn’t picked for the team based on her play earlier in WNBA season; however, the way she was playing as of late would have put her on the team.

This has been pointed out to them many times; they continue to deny/ignore it.

First 6 WNBA games: 37 Assists, 31 TOs; 1.19 Ast/TO ratio

Last 6 WNBA games (before the break): 75 Assists, 33 TOs; 2.27 Ast/TO ratio
(her overall TOs are still running very high - something that would have been a big liability at the Games)

A moderately interesting - or maybe not - post mortem on the US Olympic medal haul. Of the 122 US total medals, nearly 16% were won by persons from within a 30 mile radius of Washington DC. (The DC metro area has a population of about 5.5M, representing about 1.5% of the country's population.)

You go, DMV...I guess. But as a former Soviet Studies guy, I can't help but think of the Soviet/Russian concept of Moscow as "The Center" - of culture, of power, and relevant here, of the kind of economic well being it takes to have the opportunity to train for something like this. I can't help but wonder whether that's a healthy thing for a country.

My postmortem analysis of these Olympics is that USA Diving needs to step their game up over the next four years to compete with the Chinese for medals. I don't recall a single American diver being a threat. Even Canada Diving had divers in contention.

The USA has disappeared from the diving scene since the days of Greg Louganis. One medal in Paris.

Diving is where the Chinese load up on their gold medals. We need to challenge them better here.

Diving and table tennis. I think China had five gold medals in table tennis.

I know Boudia won gold in 2012 and silver in 2016. Still, not where we need to be though

He bounced back quickly, thank goodness!

Why are you throwing shade at the man who finally broke the USAs 20 yrs drought in the 100m. It was obvious to everyone, he didn't have his best stuff in the semis and the final and still ran 19.7 in the 200m.

Just come out and say you don't like flamboyant black athletes. We can all read between the lines.

Men's and Women's Swimming will need some folks to step up too. Ledecky will be 4 years older and there was a big void left when Phelps retired that didn't quite get filled in at Paris. The women's swimming carried the US team.

Confident we can reload on the track though.

No, I was told he was very sick with covid and would be likely masking up...but I guess instead he's living it up in the club.
Glad to see it was basically just a cold.

"Very sick with covid " in 2024 is not even close to the same as 2020 and 2021 covid. But, any person with a lower respiratory infection with his history of lung disease as a child, it definitely would exasperate the symptoms.

Someone is still butt hurt that covid didn't affect him like the millions of others that lost there lives or are dealing with it's effects for the rest of there lives.

I kept going back and forth on him, honestly. On the one hand, his performance was spectacular in what may have been the greatest 100 race ever run. On the other hand, my personal problem with his flamboyance was that it was so artificially staged managed, even relative to the heavy stage management that most of the athletes in this, the "Influencer Olympics." Then again on the other hand, he was johnny on the spot in being one of the first to congratulate tebogo, and that counts for an awful lot in my book.
