Very happy to get to see so many of our guys getting some mat time this weekend, but I have to say This attached/unattached and elite/ not so elite crap aggravates me.

It all has to do with the new rule which is actually worse than the previous rules. Only 6 guys can be attached or else it counts as a competition date for the team. We are already maxed out on competition dates. So since freshmen have to be attached first semester we can only send 6. Anybody else that wants to go, even if they’ve already redshirted, has to be unattached.

Maybe, in retrospect, the starting team won't be taking the full 16 competition dates in the future, so that upper classmen don't end up paying their own way to compete unattached. That, or the first semester wrestlers who benefited this year will be paying as unattached in future years.
What is the rationale for freshman needing to be attached first semester? I admit I’ve been under a rock for the better part of the last several months.
I believe it’s an academic thing mostly. I think wrestling had one of the worst 1st year 1st semester avg GPA of all ncaa sports.

Surprised the choice was bourbon rather than pole in hand.
Seemed like a great new rule…but the second & third order effects are “aggravating.” It could certainly be improved by removing the max of 6 restriction, imho.

We are ranked #2, this is more of a reloading year. If we can be ranked #2 in a rebuilding year, well I'll take that all the time!

Gobblin had mentioned that one of the all star matches might not happen, I was guessing he was talking about Woods since Warner and Cass both wrestled in the “wrestle-offs” and are slated to go this weekend.
Half the team is probably dinged up before the season starts per usual.
