Link bellow is an intermit article about results of committed wrestlers. Michigan recruits had an impressive showing. My question is, how relevant is the tournament? It seems to be at a very odd time of year to me. My reason being that fall sports, especially Football, would make it impossible for many top kids to attend.

Even without kids being in a fall sport, and getting the idea that more and more kids wrestle year round at clubs. I would still guess that most kids would not be in top condition like during the season. To me, it would make more sense to host this in very early spring.

Just like to hear everyones thoughts?

It’s the biggest fall tournament for high school wrestlers. A lot of kids see it as a way of making a name for themselves and drawing interest from schools. At least it was that way back when I was counting celling lights. I think it’s still relevant. It usually gets a pretty good draw from the top tier wrestlers, with a few notable exceptions each year.

My question probable should have been more about all the tournaments these days and maybe how you would rank them. Use to be Fargo as the big one and I am guessing that still remains true. Now there are so many with Super 32, Virginia Nationals, et....

I am wondering if the tournaments are getting a little watered down almost like what has happened to the Midlands?

This purpose of this tournament is for individual kids to showcase their talents against the best in country. The kids that are placing in this tournament are superbly conditioned athletes. (I didn’t see anyone gassing). These kids are all competing unattached from their high schools, I don’t think you’d get anywhere near the draw if you held this competition after the state tournament. I don’t have the numbers, but if you look at the list of past tournament winners, it correlates pretty well to collegiate success. If you go back to the 2017 Super 32 tournament winners included Cullen Schriever, Pat Kennedy and Anthony Cassioppi.

Not at all. As a coach, you just have to know where the best competition actually is. There are just a lot more wrestlers competing as well.

Pound for Pound - Super 32 is king. No Age or grade separation, huge brackets and the ranked guys consistently attend.

1. Super 32
2. Fargo Juniors
3. UWW Cadets
4. NHSCAs
5. NHSCA Duals

Then you have the in-season tournaments that are even better gauge

1. Ironman
2. Beast of the East
3. Powerade
4. Doc B
Clash, Escape the Rock, Cheesehead, KC Classic, Geary.

Wrestling is an 11-12 month sport now. And the best kids? Treat their bodies like professionals. Maybe not the nutrition, but conditioning wise - they're staying in great shape year round. Look at how early Who's Number One is. This isn't 1993. You can't use the excuse that you're not in shape. When you show up to these national events, and college coaches are watching - its an opportunity. Getting "in shape" is not that hard.

The one minute periods could've played a role here, but I entirely agree with your post.
Not entirely accurate. The first few rounds are 2:00, 1:30, 1:30. From the quarters on its three 2 minute periods. Same goes for the consolation side of the bracket. Most weights the champions wrestle 6-7 times to earn a title. If you show up out of shape, you’re getting bounced early.

Also, the Cadet (U17) World Team members can’t really attend Fargo but they are all at S32. Folkstyle probably makes it a little more relevant for college too. The “no age or grade separation”’is huge for lower weights. Any weight 182 or above seems tougher at Fargo though, probably because of football.

I get you're saying, but the best junior heavyweight in the world is playing football right now.

So its all or nothing? Come on.

How many kids that are top 10 at their weight nationally are missing Super 32 due to a fall sport? 5?
MANY. The S32 brackets from 106-132 had 15-18 of the top 20 registered. 195-285 had closer to 4-7. Thiry from Don Bosco plays football and still made it to S32 but that’s the exception I would guess based on the numbers.

Interesting. Has our guy beaten the Iranian “monster,” mentioned above or were they at different weight classes?

If they are currently at different weight classes, that might be a tough battle for our guy until he bulks up.

If you are referring to Kueter he didn't win Juniors at heavyweight and he definitely would not be the best junior heavyweight if he wrestled there.
I was wondering if we were getting parallel universed there or something.

Really!?!?! I am not sure who would beat this kid with that kind of certainty? Whoever that kid is though? Please tell me we are recruiting him too!!!

LOL. Masoumi. He's referencing Masoumi. Sounds like we're all a little confused on this day.

And Yes. Tom and Co. SHOULD be recruiting Masoumi. I hear he's in town in December.

Sebolt is an amazing club, but wow was Super 32 an off event for them. Going from dominating fargo to one place winner at Super32. I get they didn’t have a few of their studs but man.
Some PA Highschool programs had 4-5 placers.

This event for them would be equivalent to Iowa not taking Spencer, Woods, Kennedy, Warner, and Cass to NCAAs. How high would you expect Iowa to place then?

Or PSU not sending RBY, Starocci, Brooks, Dean, Kerk to NCAAs.
