I'm really curious about this. I'm sure many will lie but I'm asking not to and I'll keep it anonymous.

For discussion:

The quote is nobody has to like it but it's the way it is and it's not going away. Does that make you more or less likely to donate?

If you do donate, what sports would you prefer the money be used for?

If you don't donate (which I currently don't but highly considering), why not?

I donated $100 twice, Once when Swarm first started then again when the Proctor transferring back to Iowa thing went down.

The funny/not really funny thing that happened on this board when Swarm first started was I mentioned that I donate monthly to The Children’s hospital in I.C. A poster basically called me an idiot for giving a monthly donation to the hospital and not Swarm and that I needed to get my priorities straight.

Put me down as one that hates what NIL has become. I'm 100% in favor of college athletes being able to make money off their names.. Always thought it was stupid that the NCAA used to forbid it. But, what I had in mind was players being able to make money by way of autograph signings, shoe deals, or whatever. Not "cut me a check and I'll come play for you". I don't support the pay for play model. We have the pros for that.

It seems that what it takes to bring in a given player is getting out of hand quickly. OSU spent $20 million on their team? How are my paltry few hundred dollars going to remotely compete with that? A sugar daddy I am not. I realize if everyone contributes that it adds up, but still.

Finally, I guess it just isn't important enough to me to direct my disposable income to paying athletes to play for my favorite team. I care enough to watch the games, and post on here.. But that's about it.

There's my honest answer.

Yeah, that's messed up. I'll never fault anyone for donating to the hospital instead. There are more important things than sports.

I've seen others write that maybe I-Club donations etc. could be better used if routed to the NIL collective, instead, though.

I’m not going to donate money to kids going to college for free, but I’m happy to purchase products or services where a portion of proceeds benefit the Swarm. (ie: Swarm beer).

Basically, I need to feel a direct personnel benefit from my investment. At the end of the day, it’s simply a business decision.

Somehow the school’s have evaded having to pay the players and are passing the buck to the fans. I’m going to be less and less invested as a fan emotionally and financially until that changes.

My personal problem is despite getting older and supposed to be maturing, I'm just getting bitter.

I completely understand this sentiment as the universities seem to be passing the buck. They are making so much money off of the players and want the fans to continue to pay... and get tickets... to all sports... home and away... and keep paying for the services showing these games. It's frustrating and I want to know where all the money goes.

That said, I can't control that.

I don't think your getting bitter, I think your getting wiser. This isn't good for 90% of the teams, and Iowa is one of those. And its not good for ANY of he fans.....

I would donate but I don’t like all the secrecy involved with it. Everything the Swarm does with your donation is completely private. If they would just share the contracts and people could actually see where exactly their money was going, I think more would participate.

I know I'm not a donater, but to answer the half of the question as to which sport I would like the money to go to if I DID donate.. Men's basketball is my answer.

Not that I don't love Iowa football, but I grew up on Iowa hoops and it is/was my true passion. I've gotten the impression that little if any NIL money is going towards the basketball program. I don't know that for a fact, though, but that would be another hesitation for me.

As someone else just mentioned, I'd like to know where the money goes (no secrecy).

These are fair points. Does anyone know why they are secret with contracts? Do they have to be?

I am on record that I will never donate to kids who are kind of good at a sport who get paid more than teachers, firefighters, nurses, etc. The whole system is bonkers. If Iowa can’t keep up so be it. Screw the blue bloods too.

I have watched far too many post game interviews to send any of my money in that direction.

No, I told you in another thread that after my donations culminated in Cade McNamara I lost my wife, my house, and now I beat my kids for no reason.
Why do you keep making me and my kids relive this?
And I apologize again for cuckolding you and adding to your misery. BTW, that last kid is mine. He'll be receiving a gift this Christmas.

I’ve donated annually since Swarm began. I hate what college sports have become, but I still cheer on all Iowa sports teams and this is the only way to stay competitive for now.

I also am very happy to support the retention of our longtime players, and the charity component is a nice cherry on the top (if not a bit superficial).

I think the NIL era as currently existing is going to be a short term thing, so hoping the Hawks can remain relevant until it does.

This is what I said in another thread. So many fans pounding their chest about the Big Ten and how much money we get. So what? Where is it going? And why is NIL totally separate from that? So these giant TV contracts get split up amongst the teams but then what? I guess it helps you continue to pay coaches but are schools like Purdue, Rutgers, Maryland even Iowa using this money to make the program better? But then they want us to pay players to play here. It makes no sense.

100%. It makes me wonder how much of this is just handshake deals, and that's why guys are sitting out like the UNLV kid who got $300 of his $100k "agreement

I make it a point to donate annually and ensure that all players and staff receive a copy of the following certificate:

I am in the same boat as the late, great Big Bopper: "I ain't got NO money...".

However, I occasionally scrape together enough pop cans to redeem so I can attend affordable regional, non-NIL, games such as ICCC and Waldorf. Football is football.

Well you are the one that keeps watching it after all that. Kind of on you at this point.

NIL is not pay for play. It's pay for "outside work" you perform for someone outside of sport.

If we could generate a top 15 NIL fund annually by some means, and then we can't compete at that level or above I would be out too. We have to get there first to see.

Welcome to sports. Um any sport pretty much.

You go to movies? You are paying actors and they are paid more than all those you stated also. It's all entertainment.
