Either that guy hasn't moved/relocated in over 6 decades, or they've been keeping in touch and she knew where to find him.
Ehh it's probably not that hard to find someone these days if you know some basic stuff about them.
That said it's equally likely that her husband was still in contact with his ex and possibly even seeing her. The postcard could have simply been the way she found out.
Not saying that it makes it right to react with violence but it would explain WHY she did that.
