These were both true prior to these agreements. Opioid deaths have declined in the past 2 years. I suppose that doesn't prove that use is down but serves as a meaningful proxy. Migrant crossings are at a 4 year low. Mexico implemented the El Carrusel policy which has been their most aggressive migrant policy in recent years. They have been apprehended migrants and shipping them back to the southern border.

These threats did little other than to alienate some of our strongest allies and reinforce the idea amongst them that the U.S. is not a reliable partner. Less than 1% of fentanyl and illegal immigration is coming across the northern border. That won't change. The long term damage inflicted by actions like these will manifest itself through these "allies" hedging their bets and establishing stronger relationships with others like China down the road. When they are booing the U.S. national anthem in Canada, that's not a win. That's a problem.

You can laugh at this if you want but this is a statistical fact. Americans are overwhelmingly the transporters of narcotics. Asia supplies the precursors, the cartels finish the product, Americans transport it, and consume it. Which makes sense because migrants and asylum seekers are subject to significantly more scrutiny at the border.

The good news is that I think we have made strides on the demand side. Prescribing rules and awareness have significantly improved. In general people are much more cautious in their use of narcotics.

What’s “laughable” is that the Biden administration didn’t follow-up with those supposed concessions from Mexico and Canada. I’ll admit to being gullible to all the chicken littles on here who said my 401K balance would drastically decline yesterday. 🥴

This is incorrect…simple Google searches tell me that 98% of fentanyl comes into this country via Mexico. Furthermore, those articles tell me that it comes in via several sources including foreign cartels, mis-labeling, containers, etc. No where did I see that American mules are a significant transporter of this drug.
