Tariff policy is working

You refuse to learn things that might crack your narratives. I don't understand why someone would want to go through life like that.

I love how most MAGAs are hyper focused on the border. Of course it’s an issue, one that NO administration has yet to fix. But while they are fixated on that, they couldn’t care less about the damage, could be called illegal, that Musk is doing and all of the allies we are pissing off. But as long as we get rid of those people, everything is good.

Are you that naive to not realize that in the final few months the Biden administration finally tried to somewhat close the southern border in a desperate attempt to win some votes. Migrant crossings under Trump have now trickled down to even fewer. Also, I don’t think fentanyl deaths are down in the last 2 years.
Nope I fully understand that Biden's change in policy resulted in reduced crossing. I was indicating that the condition was already present prior to yesterday. I don't think adding 10000 national guard will have any meaningful effects. It is security theatre

Opioid related overdose deaths are down and have continued to decline. Technically I think we only have data from 2023. Maybe it will go up in 2024 when we have all of the data. But the impression I have gotten I that is that it continues to decline.

from what i've learned tariffs against mx and ca are as much (if not more) about trade concessions as about fentanyl and human trafficking. alluding to trade and economics as the main reason however would've made the tariff imposition subject to congress approval and basically sloweddown/neutered tariff's utility as a negotiating tool. so trump's applied the exact same emergency terminology (drugs and human trafficking) to both mx and ca and retained ability to use economic power as a negotiating tool.

now both mx and ca are guilty on the drugs/migration categories but to vastly varying degrees. from that standpoint if mx significantly interrupts drugs and illegals flow, it is a solid win for us and trump will probably be happy. otoh canada could deploy their entire military to the border and trump will likely keep the screws tight until canada offers something to balance out the trade deficit. i've seen trump mention that american banks are banned from operating in canada, maybe that's a concession he's waiting for. trump's got both ca and mx by the balls. crude and certainly not classy but i hope that even if/when trump gets concessions this ends with everyone saving face

imo here's a decent and balanced take

This is incorrect…simple Google searches tell me that 98% of fentanyl comes into this country via Mexico. Furthermore, those articles tell me that it comes in via several sources including foreign cartels, mis-labeling, containers, etc. No where did I see that American mules are a significant transporter of this drug.

According to the DEA

"2021, U.S. citizens were 86.3 percent of convicted fentanyl drug traffickers—ten times greater than convictions of illegal immigrants for the same offense."

https://www.cato.org/blog/fentanyl-smuggled-us-citizens-us-citizens-not-asylum-seekers

The cartels absolutely play a role. They are often securing the product from Asia and processing it into its final form. But they primarily use Americans for transport into the US, migrants aren't often used. I also think we underestimate how much is simply shipped or mailed.

The part I take issue with here is that tariffs appear to be the one and only tool in Trumps toolbox. There admittedly are times and places when those are the best options available, but he just seems unable or unwilling to recognize that, and especially against countries with whom we’re on better terms with - like Canada, should not be the first thing he turns to.

These may well benefit us in the short term, but it concerns me what the longterm ramifications may be.

"Flying monkeys" is a term used in psychology to describe people who carry out the work of an abusive person, such as a narcissist or sociopath. The term comes from The Wizard of Oz, where the Wicked Witch of the West used flying monkeys.
And some of those enabling Flying Monkeys might just be in the same boat - I.e., also narcissists, etc.

Prove. Me. Wrong.

You can't because you won't use facts.
Fact, border crossings increase dramatically under biden because he encouraged it. Fact, Trump opposes border crossing done illegally so it will be done less. aoc will be crying at the border-fact.

That's not what we're arguing. That's not what you were laughing about. We're talking about how fentanyl is getting across the border and who is bringing it. LOOK IT UP. Then apologize for being wrong.

Since you moved the goal posts, could you point me to your posts criticizing Trump in 2019 when there were 900,000 border encounters? Links to gates opened wide allowing migrants to flow across the border the last 4 years since you claim the border was wide open?

To be fair, Rs also encouraged it. They told everybody the border was completely open and then lied about Bidens policies to get as many people to flood us as possible.

This is the main point.

We have countries that we share common interests but we don't have any true allies. We have countries that have enjoyed receiving money and unbalanced trade with our country for decades. The minute the USA shuts that down and starts thinking about our own interest is when you get the other countries crying, which is what you are seeing.
We need more posts like this. Pure objective reality. Between 1945-1970, the USA was in a position to be generous, but we were never in a position to "save the world" by writing checks to everyone with their hand out. When WW2 ended we told 2 nations they couldn't rebuild their military, so we would blanket them with ours. Those 2 turned into 100 over time. This paradigm was a cold war reality. It wasn't sustainable over a vast time period, as the ever-growing spending and trade deficits testified.
When the USSR collapsed over 30 years ago our foreign policy changed from "contain communism" to "save the world from itself".
1) No single nation will ever have that type of wealth or power
2) No single nation should have that type of wealth or power
Almost every nation on earth looks out for its own interests. The USA stopped doing that many decades ago. One of the glaring examples of that was when the Clinton administration decided to save NORTH Korea from starvation. Clinton probably thought they would be grateful, instead they viewed the USA as chumps and channeled their efforts into creating nuclear weapons to bully us. That anecdote helps prove Hexum correct. We don't have allies, we have dependents. This is the history of empires.

So you must have the missed the part about how the border was a main reason trump won.

Why won't you look up who's bringing the majority of the fentanyl across the border? That's what you were laughing at...that comment. Look it up and admit you're wrong. Then answer why you didn't complain in 2019. We know why...because you weren't told to give a damn.
