Teen Charged With Mowing Down Retired Police Chief on Bike While Friend Recorded It: ‘I’ll Be Out in 30 Days’
A teenager who allegedly killed a retired police chief in Las Vegas by intentionally plowing into him with a stolen car reportedly told cops he'd walk free within a month because the incident occurred when he was still a juvenile.
Jesus Ayala, then 17, allegedly stole a car with another teen before ramming it into Andreas Probst, 64, as he biked along the side of the road last month, recording the whole time.
In a video captured by the suspected 16-year-old passenger, Jzamir Keys, both teens could be heard laughing as they accelerated toward Probst. The camera then turns to show the former police chief sprawled out on the ground as the teens speed away.
Law enforcement located a blood-splattered vehicle abandoned less than 10 minutes away from the crash site.
Ayala and Keys reportedly went on to steal at least two other cars that day. Before the fatal hit-and-run, they allegedly hit and injured another man on a bike — a 72-year-old who survived the incident.
They then allegedly smashed both cars into each other at a nearby shopping mall.
Videos of the crime spree were only discovered weeks later.
Police body camera footage reportedly shows Ayala shrugging off the incident while being taken into custody.
"It's just ah, [expletive] ah, hit-and-run — slap on the wrist," he said, according to KLAS. “You think this juvenile [expletive] is gonna do some [expletive]? I’ll be out in 30 days, I’ll bet you.”
The teens appeared in adult court for the first time on Thursday. Ayala, who now faces 18 counts, including murder, appeared to show no remorse for the alleged crimes.
The pair are being held at the Clark County Detention Center in downtown Las Vegas. Their next court hearing is scheduled for September 26, where a judge could determine whether the teens are eligible for bail.
