Did you feel the same in 2009 when the Hawks beat UNI 17-16 and finished 10-2 with a Orange Bowl win or is that different ? It's one game Tenn. won that's all that matters.

Don't worry, gang. Purdue football will suck more than Minny and continue to be the suckiest team in the B1G this season.

the only reason they made OT in the first place was a missed App State XP and FG

You guys realize App St is an FBS team that went to a bowl game last year right? They may very well be the next Boise.

How come every time a team wins close they "should have lost".

No, they should not have, because they didn't.

If you watched the game, there's no other conclusion to draw. Tennessee did not deserve to win that game, but they did through some ridiculous luck...

As to the comparison with UNI, I think App State is a good team. A Tennessee fan told me yesterday that they are apparently ranked (must be a computer ranking of some sort) ahead of SIX other SEC teams. This same fan assured me Tennessee would comfortably win though!

But #9 Tennessee is a mighty member of the greatest college football conference in the galaxy. This is not little ole Iowa we're talkin' about here. This is no Big Ten pretender. This is the S-E-C, gal darn it. We know Tennessee is at a level far beyond that of mortal men because we are told that every day by the SEC itself along with its pal ESPN. So how is it that little ole App State could take the awesome SEC team into OT? I mean, how is that POSSIBLE?

There were 102,000 people watching in person and billions of others around the universe tuned in on their big screens, and yet I have to wonder: Did it really happen?

If a similar fate were to befall a top team in the Big Ten, can you imagine the laughing stock it would become? You don't have to imagine. History tells us that story. But since this was an SEC juggernaut, look for Tennessee to jump into the top five in the polls next week. After all, awesome is awesome. (Just don't peek behind that curtain.)

The only team with a pulse they played last year was Clemson and they lost by 31 points. They did beat Ohio in a bowl game by 2 points, though. They are not Boise State. They are a good team from a terrible conference.

Tennessee is overrated. They have a long ways to go before they consider themselves
Relevant in the SEC. Remember Auburn last year? Top 10 preseason and went 6-6.

App State only narrowly defeated Ohio ... and Ohio, itself, was an upper-level performer in the MAC. So yeah ... definitely NOT yet in contention to be the next Boise State.

Whoa. Okay, I understand the point they aren't chopped liver. But the next Boise? Uhhh...no.

So how many poll spots does Tennessee move up this week after that gritty win?

Need to see how the rest of the good teams fare. I doubt they fall out of the poll from the top 10. They did win the game after all.

Another example of how preseason polls create bogus SOS that last all season long.
This. Forever this.

I can't expect a football news outlet to not write those summer stories. But you can't stop people from forming expectations based on dart throws. It isn't fair, but I don't think you can prevent it.

Even if you forbad AP or any other poll from releasing before the season, people will still build up certain teams. Everyone will expect big things from Michigan this season, no matter what the AP ranks them.
