Terrible Big Ten has two teams in the Elite 8

Beth Goetz is foolish if she plans to ride Fran to her success resume. He will only tarnish her reputation. If she can't see it is time to move on then she will find out and it will reflect on her negatively.

Overall, the Big Ten was bad this year. So, pretty impressive to have two teams one game away from the FF.

Btw, how many teams did the “best” conference in basketball get to the Elite 8? I’m sure all our Cyclone friends who were here in droves after the Big 12 tournament will be by all weekend to answer. 🙄
PU and ILL were the cream of the crop. ILL scored pretty well against the iowa st defense. If ILL continues to shoot 50% from the FT line they will probably be done soon.

PU is always underachieving but we will see if a few other gus go off for them.

Iowa was pathetic when it played ISU and the first couple of B1G games. ISU was a much better team, but it would have been a much closer game later in the season, when Owen and Josh were starting.
Iowa State’s physicality would still have given us a world of trouble whenever we played them. They would have beat us badly in Ames no matter when we played.

10th in the conference and 9-11. And then lost to a 16-15 GA at home in the NIT. Sure.

9-11 in what turned out to be one of the best conferences.

They would have kicked most teams ass in the first round.

You really think TCU or Utah State were better teams? The NCAA results don’t bare you out.

They would have been a 10-11 seed and been an underdog in the 1st game. Lost to a very very mediocre GA team on their home court in the NIT. They had all season to prove they belonged. 10th place in your league deserves nothing. The NCAA results mean nothing. Purdue was /is a 1 seed. They’ve held their seed so far. If they lose to Tennessee then they underperformed. Illinois played over their seed by 1 game then promptly lost by 40. Wisconsin as a 5 got blown out by a 12 who then lost to Duke by 40. Sparty 8-9 game won but then was soundly defeated. Only Purdue and Illinois have proven anything. Rest of the league nothing.

Slow your roll on the B1g being great this year. I’d say it’s a top 5 conference in MBB, and that’s about all that’s been proven to this point. Maybe Purdue ends the conference drought, but no team from B1g is in final four yet. If, and I know if, Tenn beats Purdue, that puts 2 SEC teams in final four. And leaves B1g again on the outside looking in.

No one said the Big 10 was great. The conference did over perform according to perception. The Big 12, on the other hand, vastly underperformed. They need to deal with it, not make excuses.

I'm watching Vikings right now. Seen it once but with my head injury after a year it's all new to me.

I disagree. IMO we are close to vying for the Big title and going on a deep tourny run.

They’ll be along any minute to tell us all playing in the Big 12 is such a grind that its teams were too tired and beat up to do anything in the meaningless NCAA tourney.
Not a good tournament for the Big 12 going 7-8 overall as a conference with only two teams playing over their seed. Quite a contrast from last year when two of the seven teams (in then a ten team conference) made the Elite Eight.

#1 Houston lost to #4 Duke by three in the Sweet 16
#2 Iowa State lost to #3 Illinois by three in the Sweet 16
#3 Baylor lost to #6 Clemson by eight in the second round
#4 Kansas lost to #5 Gonzaga by twenty-one in the second round
#6 Texas Tech lost to #11 NC State by eleven in the first round
#6 BYU lost to #11 Duquesne by four in the first round
#7 Texas lost to #2 Tennessee by four in the second round
#9 TCU lost to #8 Utah State by sixteen in the first round

Injuries clearly affected Houston and Kansas going into the tournament. No way Iowa State beats Houston by 28 in the championship game if they're at full strength. It seems like their seeding should have been downgraded.

Houston lost J'Wan Roberts in the conference tournament but did get some minutes in the title game and seemed to be okay in the Duke game. They had earlier lost Ramon Walker to a knee injury who was working his way back, but may not have been 100%. But the real killer for them was losing Shead, an AP All-American first team stud that only played 13 minutes in the Duke loss before getting hurt.

Kansas lacked depth that hurt them all year, but their best two players were hurt late in the season. McCullar missed six of the final twelve games of the season, including the first round of the Big 12 Tournament where KU lost to Cincinnati. He then opted out of the NCAA tournament. Their other star player, Hunter Dickinson, was also out for that first tournament game. But he did play in the NCAA and helped them win an easy first round game before getting drilled by Gonzaga.

I'd really like to see both make the Final 4 with Purdue winning it all. The thought of IL winning it all nauseates me.
Having no guard play caught up to them....and playing a juggernaut Uconn team didn't help! IL really needed a quick/shifty guard to go along with Domask, then Shannon would have been playing the 3 slot more.

Purdue was top 5 all season. They’re a 1 seed so they honestly should make the Final 4. They’ve got a game changing big man and their guard play is much improved. Can definitely beat UConn. Illinois has the most dynamic player left in the tournament and along with UConn the most efficient offense left in the tournament. Neither of these teams are plucky little underdogs.
Illini must have had a bad pre-game meal. Not even the Hawks can get out scored 30-0…my God, WTF was that about?

And got shut down to the tune of a 30-0 run against UConn.

Shows just how laughable this notion of Iowa State being one of the top 4 seeds in the tournament was.
And shows the weakness of the Big 10. How many years since a Big 10 team won it all, 25?

Michigan State in 2000 I believe. Unless you want to throw in Maryland when they were still in the ACC.

I agree the Big Ten has not been nearly as good as it was in the 1980s and 1990s.
