Teske

Talk is he wants to go 133 and can't beat Biscoglia. Schriever beat Biscoglia 2 times last year. Other talk is possibly UNI doesn't have his grad school major, he always liked Iowa and maybe a shot with them is worth the risk of not starting. Also I think Schriever was injured before U23s and ended up not wrestling. I don't know what that injury was.
I can read the intranet and get this.

Is it an Iowa HS/colleges rumor that is moving along the grapevine or something else?

Tyler Clark transferred in from Iowa State a little over a decade ago with 2 years of eligibility remaining, presumably because he had a good chance at being the starter for us after Dennis graduated. He did start a few duals and went to quite a few open tournaments and did really well, but Tony Ramos was our true starter then and who we sent to B1Gs and Nationals.

When Tony Ramos gave a speech at the HAWK party after nationals in 2012 (the year Clark graduated) where he got 3rd place, he specifically called out Clark in his speech to thank him for pushing him every day in practice and for making him a better wrestler. It was apparent the amount of respect that Ramos (and the rest of the team) had for Tyler Clark, who worked his ass off to help them team even though he wasn't "the guy".

If Teske wants to transfer in, even if he doesn't ultimately win the starting spot, he could still be a valuable asset to the team by helping push everyone around him to get better

Teske has 2 years left right? Biscoglia is done after this year and headed to Iowa Medical school, won't use the "Covid year". I see Land as a 133, maybe Teske thinks he can't beat him? Bennett is very happy at Iowa and appears content in running out his eligibility clock without being a starter. Maybe Teske has this same mindset? The Dodgers are thick as thieves and maybe just want to be on the same team and be around each other? I agree with everyone else, Cullan is not losing to Teske.

My thoughts too. Lot of friends here. Atmosphere is huge, helped with Chittum

It seems like he wanted to move up to 133 and was told that he can't at UNI.

this may have been discussed but didn’t teske already wrestle for the hawks at some point? Or was it a recruiting shift - can’t recall

Neither. He visited but decided PSU. Carl was all in after him as a power move to take the top prospect from Iowa after we got Spencer.

The Carl recruiting over CS for Teske. Oh wait….
How is this possibly recruiting over anyone? Teske isn’t an all American and CS has had a handful of matches. You can’t recruit over someone if they haven’t earned the spot.

It’s absolutely nothing like Cael recruiting over his injured 197 AA to bring in a former 184 lb champ.

over recruiting is good. no coach should turn away a talented wrestler who wants to come aboard. going in circles about how it's bad is a loser's mindset.

Wait, we aren’t seriously being critical of taking Dean, are we? That was a no brainer and it paid off.

and constantly litigating on how they are or aren't different is pointless because bringing in wrestlers who add value to the team is a good thing. the whining from hawk fans over the past 10 years was nothing more than coping with not being as good as psu.
Be careful jumping off of your high horse. Wouldn’t want you to sprain an ankle.

Edit to add: Don’t tell me it’s pointless. We’re smack dab in the middle of the off-season, talking about a hypothetical scenario on a message board. Everything is pointless right now. Except the fact that we’re talking on a message board….which is the point of a message board.

Shriever has never been the same since he was injured in his junior year of high school IMO
I remember when he had to essentially forfeit out of his semifinals match as a Junior because of that. Holy cow he appeared to be in excruciating pain. Anyways, ironically enough, that was against Teske’s teammate, Carson Taylor of Fort Dodge who would go on to beat Hunter Garvin in the state finals next round. One of the most interesting matches I saw in the entire U23 tournament a couple months ago was Carson Taylor vs. Brody Teske. It was a pretty competitive match for a while, but Teske pulled away at the end.

Carson's my cousin, I was hoping he would pull off that win over Teske. He's done a nice job at Grand View

Watched him a lot in HS, especially when I did the 3A rankings for The Predicament.

Also, watched him a lot in college for a year as well. With my brother being in NAIA for 3 years, I watched and covered Grand View quite a bit. Great kid and you have a great family, man! Have talked to he and his dad a couple times here and there. Grand View picked up an awesome recruit with Carson Taylor. A bit of a “sleeper” recruit, tbh. I think the kid could compete D1 if he were training in a D1 program. I mean, look at the match with he and Teske… I want to say he had a 1-2 point lead in that match at a certain point. Could be wrong tho. I know it was close for most of the match. I can’t imagine how much of a rush that was for Carson when he was hanging in there like that against Teske, for Carson was an underclassmen when Teske was a Senior in HS and probably idolized him, considering Teske was a star at Fort Dodge, being a 4X state champion who never suffered a HS defeat until his senior year when he split 1-1 with Alex Thomsen of Underwood.

NAIA is a pretty fun division to watch… for real. I STILL follow it closely, even after Brennan transferred. The guys at that level aren’t as technically refined as guys at the D1 level, and there is NO debating that. But man do the guys at the NAIA level ever BRAWL out there. They definitely let loose and throw down out there more than guys at the D1 level. Not as much defensive wrestling.

my best analogy for NAIA vs D1 is this… D1 is NFL Madden Football… NAIA is NFL Blitz.

As for my thoughts on Teske, I think it’s difficult to formulate an accurate judgment on what to expect from him when he competes for Iowa. Yeah, we’ve seen how he’s done at PSU and UNI, in which he’s had both, moments where he’s fallen short AND moments where he’s shown flashes of greatness. However, we haven’t seen what he’s capable of while training in the Iowa room, which could result in something totally different for him. Who knows? The “Iowa Style” and method(s) of training could be the perfect “fit” that Teske has been searching for all this time. Let’s not forget how ecstatic most of us would have been had he signed with the Hawkeyes immediately out of HS. The guy was a world-beater in HS. Just because he has underwhelmed for 2 other programs to this point, doesn’t mean that he will underwhelm at Iowa. Iowa is in it’s own ballpark compared to every other program in the nation in terms of the way they train and the style they implement.

It seems pretty close-minded and pessimistic to me, to automatically assume that Teske won’t be a solid contributor in the Hawkeye lineup. And it’s important to stay patient in the process and to reserve overly-negative judgment on both Teske AND Schriever in the stages of development that they are in. Who knows, not only could Iowa be the perfect “fit” Teske was seeking, but Schriever and Teske could be perfect “fits” for each other as practice partners. They have an opportunity to make each other a lot better and the varsity stuff will all sort itself out in time. Who knows what could happen, for both guys? 🤷‍♂️

My 2 cents and then again, you have to consider the source. A couple months ago, my gf became irate with me for being late to one of her family functions for like the 5th time in a half year. This is an ongoing thing for me, for I’ve been late to almost everything my entire life. So after being razzed bad by my gf, I Google searched if people being habitually late is indicative of the person having character flaws, as my gf was implying while chewing me out, and the info that came up surprised me… being late is actually more indicative of someone who is a natural-born optimist. Like, no matter how late they are running, they always feel or think they are still gonna be on time. Haha that adds up. 😆 So yeah, this could be the ramblings of someone who is just irrationally optimistic! 😆

I don't think anyone is saying he wouldn't be solid. The debate is whether he's an upgrade over CS. And, of course, Iowa generally has a higher expectation than "solid" for any spot in the lineup.
