Texas House advances bill that would require armed personnel on school campuses

Our kids can be around armed guards at sporting events, airports/airplanes, banks, teen clubs, and more, and I've never heard anyone complain about it.

It absolutely stinks that we need to protect our children in this way from the mentally ill.. but there are people old enough to remember bomb drills in school during the cuban missile crisis.

Unfortunately a "gun free zone" sign isn't enough to deter criminals and the mentally ill from carrying out their illegal activity.

Did they have armed guards in school when you were furrowing your brow all through high school? What's changed since then? It's all the guns, dummy.

Not if we simply give up and accept it.

That's the argument I see every time there's another shooting - there's nothing we can do. That attitude has gotten us here.

Clearly this doesn't solve the actual problem, but, at least it provides cover to the gun fetish people.

I think we should approach this problem from all angles...gun control, background checks, mental health and yes hardening of schools.

Unfortunately neither side is willing to take a holistic approach.

We have 400M+ firearms in circulation...20M+ AR-15's apparently....cats out of the bag and we have folks willing to commit these atrocities. We're not going to put a serious dent in this problem unless we come at this from all angles which doesn't seem to be a possibility at this point politically.
