You rode out the tough games and gave 110% every game. You ignored the large contingent of d bags and arm chair qbs who couldn't hack it at a junior high level. Your defense and ball security was under appreciated except by your teammates and coaches who actually knew wtf they were talking about and when your shot was on it was a great weapon. Contrary to what many believe you carried us in more than your fair share games. We lose some important games without you, great team player in a team game. You could've easily said f it and moved on early with all the pressure but you took your limited role this year in stride and had fun despite some shooting struggles. Best of luck to you in the future and thank you helping Iowa get back to the big stage. Who knows, maybe you'll make a great shooting coach for a program in the future!

Congrats and thanks to Whitey Olaseni and Denning. A lot of what was said earlier applies to you guys as well, despite a huge chunk of fan grief.

Definately under-appreciated. I think he was one of the best defensive players on the team. He wasn't much for creating turnovers but he certainly could lock down on the other teams' guards. As for his offense, he was definately one-dimensional. However, when he was hot from the arch, he was fun to watch.

Will certainly miss him.

Is this a joke? Opposing teams attacked him whenever he came into the game. He had to have one of the worst +/- stats in the country for a person who got more than 10 minutes a game. Lets thank him for his contributions and wish him a very successful future without rewriting what really happened on the court.

How about we wish the kid good luck in the future? I'm sure he tried his hardest. I wish I had the chance to play at a D1 level.

I can't wait for you to graduate 8th grade.

I'm with the majority. Wish him luck but so glad I'll never have to watch him play again. It is what it is. The guy just wasn't a good bball player. Not everybody needs a ribbon.

He wasn't bad either. I'll take him any day over Devan Bawinkle or JR Angle. He is certainly better than the players I had to watch in college 6 years ago. Is that saying much? Probably not, but he was a important part of the team and made threes in important situations.

Not a good player, yes I agree. But he wasn't a cancer to the team and he contributed when he had to.

Take it easy on northside. I'd probably be a little pissy too if people took shots at my kid for 4 years.

Who is Coach Fran going to replace JO with in the rotation next year?
Brady Ellingson.......
I think Fleming comes in as a ready made player and will get a lot of the minutes that Josh gave us this past year. To me he is the one player who is probably as close to his ceiling coming in as we have seen in a long time. Doesn't mean he won't and can't get better but more that I think he will be good right out of the gate. He seems as physically ready as can be (strong kid), has played with high level teammates/competition, and he also seems to have a swagger that many frosh don't quite have.

I am not sold on Brady bc, unlike Josh, I am not sure Brady won't be a liability on the defensive side of the ball. Physically he looked tiny when he was out of the court early this season, kid can stroke it for sure but he is going to have to show more than that with Pete and Fleming already sitting at the SG spot.

Personally I think one from the 2015 class 2/3 players isn't on the roster come the end of next season just bc Fran has recruited so many of them in this class (Brady, Moss, AF, Williams) plus Pete is still going to be sitting there getting lots of minutes. These guys want to play and someone has got to give.

Williams will get some time at point so I think he sticks, already stated that I think AF will get early minutes, Moss is going to get time at the 3 so I think he gets enough minutes early to stay satisfied which leaves BE who may be great but right now I just don't know what to make of him in a crowded backcourt.

Good kid, bad basketball player. That's life.

Best wishes on JO's future.........and the game I remember him the most for was at home last year vs MN or IN where he just lit it up, hit 4 or 5 threes in the first half and one was late in the half and was raising his arms and pumping the crowd up after. Was awesome!!

Go Hawks

Nice guy, but glad to see him go. He had many poor games with a few good ones sprinkled in. He gave it his all for the Hawks and I respect him. Thank you JO!

Good kid, bad basketball player. That's life.
I have spoken to someone who attended practice an he confirmed that JO was a lights out shooter. It will forever remain a mystery why he could not shoot as well in games. He wasn't a bad player, he was just a good practice player who could not get it done when the bullets were flying. He came in highly ranked and lightly recruited White became the All BIG player.

He is a great kid and damn good basketball player that i got to see quite a few times play some pretty serious competition. He was the lead guy on Barnstormers team that featured himself, Uthoff, Tuttle, Washpun, and a few others that have had pretty successful college careers. You just never know. I am still surprised after watching him play on the AAU circuit and the things he did shooting and passing the ball that it never translated to the college game like i thought it would. Great kid and will go on to do great things in life and im glad he was a hawkeye.

IMHO...the following all suffer, at times, with serious "headcase" game time issues, which limit their abilities and limit the team.

JO

MG

Woodie

A. White

Sapp

These issues help to explain why Iowa has tended to be...well, either appearing to be very good or borderline inept...

Does the team have a sports psychologist?

Actually, Fran took a chance on Josh and it didn't work out as expected....I'm sure he will be successful wherever he goes but Josh did not work out. I still wonder why, watching pregame shoot around, JO even took shots in anticipation of getting into the games...there were times he had no intension of taking shots, his shot faking was legionary, and what's even more surprising is that opponents actually guarded the man....hard to believe that film study didn't prepare teams to ignore his existents on the court. Not going to be missed......

Bawinkle made more three's his last two years than Josh. JR never played, I would hope you would prefer somebody else

Careful, rev or some gutless admin will delete your comment or thread for no reason while not even saying what they were butthurt about while allowing others to post crap that's infinitely worse than anything you've ever posted. Why do I say that? No reason (sarcasm).

I think the administrators of this site know better than to delete what I write or kick me off...they are well aware of how important I am! :)

Does the team have a sports psychologist? I would guess it would be money well spent...

And to get back to the topic...how one could describe JO's career as "great" is kind of mind boggling to me... Disappointing would catch it for me.

Best of luck to him, however.

rev, my post that was inexplicably removed was almost exactly the same ad the 2nd part of yr last post. Yet it was removed. Oglesby never fulfilled his promise as a player but I wish him no ill will and even said so. The inconsistency on this site is disappointing to say the least.

wyohawk made a joke on this very thread about how the OP has a weird axe to grind and makes it sound like a eulogy for Oglesby. His comments were deleted and he was banned from the site.

RIP wyohawk.

I agree, he wasn't a bad player, he just couldn't shoot during games. In most other ways he actually played pretty well. He was just all head case about shooting.

It is life, suck it up...move on...

Josh could have played for several programs that were in a far better place than Iowa back then. he came to iowa because he loves the Hawks. that means something to me.

JO did have other offers from better teams than Iowa at that time. I, too, appreciate his loyalty to his home state and wish him the best.

People saying he was a bad BB player just have no clue. Fran has raised the level of our team each year. He wouldn't risk that by playing a bad player. Good God.

Actually, it is pretty common for "good" coaches to "go with" a sub par player, long after that player has demonstrated that he/she isn't what the coach "thinks" he is, or was.

Coaches, being people, once they make a decision are loathe to change that decision because, well, it is an admission that they made the improper choice to begin with.

JO got playing time because Iowa had few other options. He struggled to get his shot off, and, most often hesitated and passed the chance off to someone else. Lack of confidence does that. He "looked great" in practice, so it is reported, and shot well against lesser teams and had a better stroke when the game wasn't up for grabs.

Did JO improve from year to year good, great, greater, greatest? I didn't see it and I'll bet the coaches were just as confused and frustrated as many fans.
