they didn't appear over-matched to me...
Hard to say what is going on, but the team seems to be semi-disinterested going back the Illinois game. Long season, tired legs, every team jacked up to play a top 10 team or just a bump in the road that to this point the team has avoided. OU lost to Texas Tech and Duke beat UNC, so not the only top 10 team to trip up.
Iowa's offense has been a two stroke engine with Uthoff and Jok. Woodbury will rarely be a double digit scorer, The major fault point lies with Mike Gesell's shooting decisions. He is not quick enough nor strong enough to take the ball to the basket and either stop and pop a 8 to 12 foot jumper or finish at the rim. Mike does not elevate quickly against shot blocking bigs or use his body well. Mike's best shooting period came when the decision making was in Devyn Marble's hands. Clemmons is really suppose to be Mike's backup but who else has a somewhat consistent offensive game. Uhl and Baer a nice relief spots at time and Ahmad Wagner is just trying to help rebound and do what he can ( play within his game).
Disappointment has been the shooting guards - Ellingson, Fleming and Williams. HS top scorers who have not found their game at this level. Especially, Ellingson. Two years in the program. Tentative nature in a spot where great shooter should have extreme confidence. Fleming and Williams are true freshmen. Hope the word about Moss and Hutton are correct as I hate to say this but I have surrendered any hope on Ellingson becoming a factor. Williams might turn it around next year like Devyn Marble did. Lots of hard work ahead.
I would be embarrassed to lose to Duke and their refs.Yeah, it sure is horribly embarrasing to lose to Duke in a rivalry game. Sure hope UNC can circle the wagons after that one.

Because all freshmen should be game - ready like Kentucky's 5 star annual NBA recruits are......or else!!!!!How can you be disappointed in freshman?
I must have missed this, what's the word with those 2? Thanks in advance.
No print words. I have a couple of network friends that have strong connections to the Iowa sports program and especially the mens' basketball program. If Moss had not had such a late start by missing summer league ball, he would be ahead of Fleming, Williams and Elllingson. My insiders tell me Moss will be a starter next year. Hutton has been working on his shooting form hard. His defensive prowess is like Kenyon Murray. One thing this team does not get alot of is steals, whether from bad passes, pick pocketing poor dribbling or stripping weaker ball handlers. Hutton may not be a starter but definite a guy who could close out streaky shooters.
Just a little info from my Iowa network friends. It probably won't seem like big news but I cannot give it all away for free as I always foot the bill at the food joints we get together.
